What equip will we need, ie will plasma's be able to recieve hdtv.
To get HDTV 'Right Now' in Europe you will need:
A High Definition capable display Device.
A D-VHS 'D-Theater' VCR (such as a JVC HM-DH30000U), and some D-theater HDTV tapes.
(As there are no broadcast HDTV services available in Europe.)
Or in the future:
A High Definition capable display Device, including decoding unit (possibly a set-top box).
And a broadcaster delivering a HDTV service to Europe.
To show HDTV properly any Pixel display (Plasma, LCD, DLP) would need a native resolution of 1920 x 1080.
At the moment a CRT projector is probably the best bet for compatability (although a component to RGB transcoder will be needed if the projector doesn't have a HDTV component input).
You might also note that even CRT projectors which have bandwidth to accept a 1080i signal might not be able to display such a signal. (I believe Sony D50's and Barco708's can't, Roland can probably confirm this)
Will my pannasonic w4 be able to recieve hdtv?
D4 is a standard defintition device that has ability to accept HiDef 1080i and 720P signals. It downscales these to native resolution of panel of course but you will be able to view such software.
Gordon, I take it that you are no further forward with receiving American satellite in the UK?
It's impossible to receive US satellite in Europe
"Feeds" are all that would be obtainable - pretty much useless. It's not impossible to have HDTV though (& no, I don't mean D-Theatre).
I've given up Matt: Like you I am reduced ti pre-recorded and recorded HiDef tapes for my fix....Perhaps if Ihad broadband and a friend in US I could do better;-)
Can you elaborate Kramer, although I think I know what you mean...
Well, not really, not here at least.
