    Hello,

My first venture into the forum that is CRT's.

    My predicament is this...

Ive just installed the screen (motorised 8' Owl) and now I'm in the market for a projector.

Having been blown away by a demo of 2 barcos doubled up (with a house-price worth of scaler) at the Manchester Practical Hifi show last year I feel that I must give CRT a shot.

Would be possible to install a CRT projector into a room where the distance from the screen to the rear wall is 13' 9" (4m 17cm).

If so (and I wonder if Roland could help here) what should I look for and how would I install it:rolleyes:

To give an idea of my room check out this link:

Please help as having spent a huge amount of time saving for, and building by hand this particular dream I'd hate to get it wrong with the Projector choice (especially as there is only one demo room in the area - with limited stock).

    Thanks

Many thanks on your kind coments of my dual stack at Manchester. (looks like they are going DLP this year though)

The Owl screens are actually 8ft of visible area if I recal. with a 13ft throw you will be limited to a compact machine, something like a Barco Cine 7, or 708. I think you will find that a Sony D50 will go in too. 808 G70 will be too long.

If you are a comptetant DIYer then hanging a projector is not a difficult process. getting it centre of screen and pointing at the middle is critical.

    Thanks Roland,

I thought it was your setup last year and I'll be interested to see what you've got in store for this years bash. Where would I find the info on the machines you've suggested?

Fire me an Email to roland@b4projection.co.uk and I and send you the PDF brochures.

Real bummer this year for Manchester show looks like Denon are going with a DLP projector because they have had complaints from their dealers that CRT is too specialised for their customers.

I can't go in my own right becasue the show organisers (a dealer) are not one of my customers.

Bit of a weak argument when they're developing kit in the £2-3K range.

I'd consider that as specialist, and I own Tag & Arcam gear!

(seems like pressure from the high volume box merchants...

...do these people forget that the high end technology almost always filters down the line to the box shifters?)
