Right I`m going listening to cd players tomorrow and now wanna know waht connectors would I be best buying

I`ll be using a yamaha dsp630 amp for now and a sony 980 mini disc deck

The players I`m looking at are nad 541 arcam 72t and marantz 6000

Should I be using digital coaxial or phono?

    use analogue coaxial

the dac in mentioned cd players will almost cetainly be better than the one in your amp

if you can get cables on loan try getting one of each and wire the digital into one input on amp and the analogue into another - then just switch sources to compare the two connections

sorry to p1$$ on your chips but I think you're making a mistake putting a quality CD player with your av amp. Until recently I had a 630 and combining it with a quality cd player was IMHO a waste of time, since it was frankly poor at handlind stereo music. I coupled it with a Rotel integrated amp and the quality of music shot up even from a humble pioneer 656 dvd player. Without a quality amp an Arcam 72T (VERY NICE) will be held back.

To answer you question though, definitely go with analogue connections - the DACs in the cd player are better than the amp's.

I know its not gonna sound at its best but I aint got a cd player at the mom and think I`d be better to buy a decent one now than buy a crap one

Just to rain on your parade but ... what DVD player do you have ...

You may find you get a bigger stereo sound improvement by spending the same on a stereo amp instead of the CD player, using the DVD player to spin discs. Or even looking at a cheeper CD player and an Amp ... a NAD C320BEE and C521i would be a similar total.

I`ve done things really gammily really but I bought the speakers (eltac floor standers) off a amte before I even had an amp.

Seeing as It was only supposed to be used with my pc for games and dvds an amp didnt come into it but i`ve been bitten by the bug now so I`m going through the list to get everything.

After I have a cd player the next will either be some decent speakers or a stereo amp

Another idea would be to get a cheeper CD player AND also a stereo amp.

The NAD C320BEE or Rotel RA-01 with a NAD C521 would total a similar amount as the CD players you've meantioned looking at. Just another idea for you to consider - depends if you're likely to have more to spend later.

Im gonna ahve laods more to spend later.

The way I see it is Id be better off getting cd player with all the cash I have now and then get a decent amp later for about3-400 instead of buying both now and compromising.

Thats the main reason I got a av amp with no radio in I`d rather get the best bits for the cash at the time.

No I have a denon radio, sony mds jbc980 qs mini disc deck and my av amp after the cd player comes some new front speakers.

What are your current speakers? You'll often find that a good amp will make speakers sound better ... but without a good amp no speaker will sound good.

    It didnt go :(

Got a phone call on friday afternoon to say they didnt have the arcam player in as they had sold the last one but I could still go along and listen to the marantz and nad :(
GOing next weekend to a store somewhere else.

Im starting to like the look of the arcam purely from a aesthetic view point.

Had my CD72t Three weeks now - it's the business. Definately get an integrated amp to go with it though. I went for the arcamA75+ in the end and i'm very happy with the results - much better than playing through my denon av amp!
