I got to thinking the other day that the best colour for a TV cabinet is black. Reason? It makes it more or less invisible when you're watching, especially in a darkened room.

It just seems that lots of the new TVs have pretty silver cabinets or even replaceable frames. I know my dad has a silver Panasonic and it makes the picture look smaller than it is.

We're renting an old 32" Hitachi (black) and it looks enormous.

    Am I mad or not?

Dark grey gets my vote, or a dull silver, like the older Sony wides - FX20 etc.

yeah, i prefer Black too. It does seem to make the picture stand out more.

Matt black gets my vote. I think the grey look will look a bit out of place in a few years time and products with cheap coatings will start to look scruffy.

we've had a 25" Sony in the room for the past 9 years. The set is a dark grey, and still doesent look too much out of date - either the colour or the TV design. It is looking a bit scruffy now, which i think is a result of someone smoking for 6 of those years.

hmmm, i feel a seperate thread coming on :)

lets just say that when the tv is not switched on, there are those of us with not-so-large rooms, that prefer the tv to have a less commanding presence.

    13ft x 10ft? - oh to have that sort of space :)

not sure on ours - typical front room in a semi-detached, but the tv is ok right now - still got a 25" Sony - taking the plunge on a 32" wide, when i can make my mind up.

Black, and even though you should not be watching the case you can see it peripherally (they don’t paint cinemas sliver), also if the case is silver it is more easily seen during the day, because of the contrast.
I also like to watch with the lights low when watching a DVD so I don’t even see my room, wish it would suit black walls, but that would be taking thing too far.
