    Hello,

I am after a Digital camera that is small. durable and fairly easy to use. I would like one that has the ability to play short clips but above all i would like the best quality pictures. It will be mainly used for point and shoot holiday/night out snaps, but would also be used to get good scenery photos or action shots so if it has various modes it would be great.

    I have a budget up to £200.

As i dont know much about them could someone give me a few recommendations of cameras to buy and pitfalls to watch out for.

    many thanks

    Thanks for the info.

This question is probably asked a million times so apologies if there is a similar thread somewhere.

    My 2p's,

Sony W12 from 7 day shop (£199.99), I don't think that theres anything with as good a picture quality for the price. The ixos 40 is another option, but only 4 mega pixels and has'nt as many modes/ manual options, but for me the fact that it can't use AA's is its downfall. Most of the other cameras at this price have crappy small screens.

But saying that, I was going to get one but now I'm looking at the panasonic lc70 for £150 direct from panasonic, I've decided that I'm not going to bother paying for features I won't use, and it also has a widescreen option ( 1920*1080) so they don't need editing to fill my TV screen and the memory is half the price.

Now I bet you are confused :D

It might be worth trying to find one with picture stabilisation - I've got a W1 and that's the one other feature I'd really like.

Other than the the Sony W1 is great, 5Mp, 2.5" lcd (more use than you'd think), 30fps video (never even thought of shooting video before getting this camera).

Possibly narrowed it down to a few around the £220 Max mark.

    Casio Exilim EXZ50
    Casio Exilim EXZ55
    Canon Ixus 40 ( sd300)
    Canon Ixus 500
    Sony cybershot W1

What do you recommend. Or what camera has the most pitfalls/issues.

I am very grateful for your help / knowledge.

    Many thanks

Seeing nicke20 opened the door with the Olympus 720, If I was looking in that direction the 765 is a lot better buy, it has 10* zoom and 4*digital (digital zoom in not recommended on any camera as it is better to crop later on the PC). It is also more compact and is 4mp rather than 3mp. And you can get one at Amazon just over your budget for £205 Here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...25886/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/202-8721613-8193411 some times the link will not work by clicking on it so cut and paste it into your address for it to work.

The Sony uses it own memory stick and can be a bit dearer than other memory.
The Cannon uses sd memory which is common and fairly cheap.
The Olympus uses xD memory which last time I talked about had come down a lot in price but do not know how it compares with sd memory.

As for Casio I do not know who makes their lens but Canon and Olympus have been in the lens business a log time and are good.

you never said it had to be girlfriend compatible

my friend just brought back the smallest casio 5mp camera with video
it was tiny in brushed alloy
amazing picture quality for a lens the size of a gnats nudger
im not certain its out in this country yet, he paid £199 for it and no dont ask me the model number. the olympus mju range is slim, girlfriend friendly and
    rainproof !
