hi I have a budget of around £100 and looking to get my first player after ditching my reds, so can anyone tell me what to go for or what to avoid as I can't see any players being recommended

Thanks

Probably because they are all much of a muchness at this price. If you need streaming services the Samsung or Sony, if not the Pioneer 170 is still available.

Wondered what "ditching my reds" meant?

I assumed he had dropped the socialist revolution and joined the capitalist conspiracy like the rest of us greedy consumers.

Me = thicko!

Out of interest is there any reason you've specifically recommended the pioneer over Sony and Samsung?

As I said it depends if streaming is of interest or not. If it is, then Sony or Samsung. If not then the Pioneer, which has SACD support.

There are Panasonic's that can be had for 5-10 quid less with 4K upscaling too which is tempting?

I think the 4K upscaling is a bit of a red herring. Usually, though not always, best to let the TV do that. At this price level almost certainly.

I still have my slim PS3 160gb and I see they are going dirt cheap on Craigslist in a lot of places. Works just fine as a DVD/BD/VUDU player.

Had the Samsung hd6500 up until recently and was always fine, upscaled to 4k and played everything including streaming from my nas as well. Think they are about 70-80 quid new

Edit... Just seen the date of the thread, I'm guessing he is sorted now, no idea why it was bumped
