What are your Top 10 movies?

In no order and just off the top of my head with no real thought.

North by Northwest
Planet of the Apes (1968)
The Man Who Could Work Miracles
The Medusa Touch
Dr Strangelove
2001 A Space Odyssey
The Boys From Brazil
Soylent Green
In the Heat of the Night
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

Just noticed there is nothing from the 21st Century and plenty from the 60s. Don’t make em like they used to :)

I know the ruelz is the ruelz but I’ve had to do an overflow ten so as not to upset any directors

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Thirteenth Floor
The Odessa File
The Taking of Pelham 123 (1974)
Kind Hearts & Coronets
All the Presidents Men
The Omega Man
Excalibur
Failsafe (1964)
Das Boot

Still nothing from this century.

Goodfellas

From last time the top ten, I don't think changed much El Cid edging for top spot may need further thoughts.
Mine are

It's A Wonderful Life
El Cid
North By Northwest
X-Men
X-Men2
Living Daylights
Jason and the Argonauts
L.A. Confidential
The Elephant Man
Cinema Paradiso

  • Back To The Future
  • Interstellar
  • The Rock

Tough to pick 10, can't place them in order
  • Predator
  • Kelly's Heroes
  • Batman Begins
  • The Shawshank Redemption
  • The Blues Brothers
  • Goodfellas
  • Empire Strikes Back
  • Star Wars: A new Hope
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Lock, Stock and two smoking Barrels

My list changes as often as Queen Amidala, apart from a few immovables. Today, in no particular order:

2001 A Space Odyssey
The Good the Bad & The Ugly
The Elephant Man
Jaws
Alien
The Fly
Boogie Nights
Drive
Donnie Darko
Casino Royale

I’m sure there are other ‘top 10 films’ threads but I guess one more won’t hurt.
That's an exceptional list.

A very tough challenge. Almost impossible to short-list to 10 but will try:

  • Cyrano De Bergerac (Depardieu)
  • This is Spinal Tap
  • The Producers (original)
  • The Usual Suspects
  • When Harry Met Sally
  • Carlito's Way
  • Boogie Nights
  • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
  • Terminator 2
  • Sideways

Honorable mentions;

The Insider
Heat (wow, has to be in there really, c'mon)
Mission: Impossible
Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Goodfellas
After Hours
Rocky
Cube
Inception
The Dark Knight Rises
Magnolia
Vertigo
Manchurian Candidate
2001
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs

In no particular order:

Scarface
Goodfellas
The Terminator
National Lampoon’s Vacation
Top Gun
Falling Down
Joker
Coming to America
The Shining
Ghost

This is Unbelievably tough. A Top 20 would have been slightly easier but overall I'd say the 90's rule supreme for me.

In no particular order:

Braveheart
Gladiator
The Matrix
The Fellowship of the Ring
Shawshank Redemption
Goodfellas
Forrest Gump
Jaws
Rocky
The Green Mile

Apocalypto
13 Assassins
Whiplash
Shutter Island
Gattaca
Ip Man
Fong Sai Yuk
Rurouni Kenshin
Bloodsport
Scrooged
Zack Snyder Justice League
Back to the Future
Beverly Hills Cop
Home Alone
Die Hard
Aliens
T2
Predator
Casino
Good Bad Ugly
Top Gun Maverick...

I started making a list then gave up. Impossible. Depends on mood.

My size isn't really relevant to how avid a fanatic I am of these:

View attachment 1716130
All in UHD except Event Horizon, which I do have the collector's edition UHD on pre-order
How the Hell Did You That - showing all these Posters?? As a 70 YO, I am certainly not a "master" of doing things like this !! Great job .. Good list and fun Thread!!

Looks like there is quite the expansion of the Top Ten?? Similar to trying to list the Top Ten Musicians (Rock Musicians, for example: Guitars, Drums, Keyboards).

In no particular order:
The Last of The Mohicans
The Scent of a Woman
Total Recall
The Godfather (Trilogy in proper Order)
Back to The Future (Trilogy)
Raiders of the Lost Arc (trilogy, not the last one)
Die Hard Trilogy
National Lampoon's Vacation and XMAS Vacation
Doctor Zhivago
Braveheart
Amadeus
GoodFellas
Apocalypse Now
The Dark Night Trilogies
Superman I & II (maybe the Man of Steel too)
Jaws
Shawshank Redemption
All the James Bond Movies
Aliens
Cool Hand Luke
The Natural

As one thinks about this, it's easy to add some more !!

No doubt I will have changed my mind by the time of posting this, but here goes...

Alien
The Exorcist
Goodfellas
Perfect Blue
The Silence of the Lambs
Raiders of the Lost Ark
United 93
One Day in September
Apocalypse Now
Mulholland Drive

How the Hell Did You That - showing all these Posters?
They're blu-ray covers on the shag rug right in front of my TV.
I thought it would make sense to just grab from my physical collection, because that's why I own them on a physical copy, I enjoy them that much.

I recently did a Top 25 list on here & that's easier than a Top 10. A Top 50 would be even easier. I seem to remember Martin Scorsese being asked for his Top 10 and he stopped after 115 or something. I get it!
So my attempt...

Lord Of The Rings Trilogy
Picnic At Hanging Rock
King Kong (2005). I love the original as much but Jackson's gets the nod as it's twice as long.
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Alien
The Deerhunter
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Blue Velvet
Titanic (1997)
Spartacus

Current top 10 (changes frequently):

1. Her (2013)
2. Margin Call (2011)
3. Die Hard (1988)
4. Good Time (2017)
5. Lost in Translation (2003)
6. Jurassic Park (1993)
7. Requiem for a Dream (2000)
8. Victoria (2015)
9. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
10. Whiplash (2014)

As others have said, the list would probably change again by tomorrow, but the top couple will never change.

The Godfather
Godfather 2
Cabaret
Singin' In The Rain
Les Miserables
Glory
Tombstone
Carlito's Way
Donnie Brasco
Blazing Saddles
These are all films I can watch over and over again. It's difficult to condense it to 10, maybe it should have been 50? :D
Notable others
The Sound of Music
Raiders of the Lost Ark
It's A Wonderful Life
Gone With the Wind
The Producers
Heat
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

In no particular order :

The Big Lebowski
Sicario
Heat
Drive
Shutter Island
Leon
The Usual Suspects
Contact
The Prestige
Lesson of Evil

not super classic AAA movies (sometimes you only need to watch those movies once - like Quentin Tarantino movies) but my list includes movies i like, which always seem fresh and interesting every time i watch them.

aliens
terminator 2
edge of tomorrow
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
the matrix
the thing
dawn of the dead (1978)
The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
back to the future
The Empire Strikes Back

interestingly, both dawn of the dead and the return of the living dead are direct sequels to night of the living dead (1968). as the 2 creators of that film went their separate ways.
