Browsing groups the other day I started to wonder what were my favourite/least favourite recurring themes and subjects.
Here are mine, please post yours.

#3 "Street" - I've taken a picture of someone having a fag without them knowing, I've done a B&W conversion therefore it's "art".

#2 "Urban" - I've taken a picture of a bus. I've added a detailed description of exactly which bus it is.

#1 "I am a photographer" - I've taken a picture of one of my cameras with another one of my cameras and posted it to groups for both cameras. I've attracted several comments of "Nice camera!".

There's one user who regularly posts pictures of UK buses in a group I follow which is mainly "art" photography/phoneography and is run by a USA based camera accessory supplier.
PhotoJojo.com — [The Best Photo Projects, DIY, and Gear]

I was tempted to include "look at this plane, it's just like the last plane" (to me anyway  )

Nice - Phone users is a good'un

Favourite in either case or both - it's only supposed to be light hearted - I've taken plenty of cliched pictures and I'm sure I will again  :D

#3 is a tricky one. There are a lot of very boring average shots of people in the street and as you say folk say it's art. However, there are some street photography that is extremely well taken, adds interest, or taken from a particular point of view that make it interesting. As Dan's pic show you can take "a picture of someone having a fag without them knowing" and do a "B&W conversion" and create a great picture. I think the issue is more just that people assume they can take a pic of someone/something in the street and it's automatically 'cool' etc without getting a good composition etc etc.

#2 Buses are the ultimate and if you want to be explored you must take nothing but photos of buses ;)

#1 We all like to take pictures of things we love. I don't have kids so have to take pics of my cameras instead

Street and b&w when combined can be good. Some on here will remember ami/hiker, she was close to genius when it came to this. Not that she would ever use Flickr, her pics usually had a half life of about 6 hours before she would delete them, interesting turn of phrase as well to explain the pictures. I still remember her cross in a graveyard with dismembered hands (but what does that say about me????).

There are a few of her's left on here - The Candid/Street Thread

Photos of selfies. Personally I quite like the photos of people and groups taking selfies. Even better when you can see their screen clearly.

Astro. And I'm sometimes guilty of this one....look at all the stars / Milky Way! I put my camera on a tripod and left the shutter open for a long time. Then I played in Lightroom until thousands of stars appeared even though what I actually could see at the time was the glow of street lights ;)

    Nice camera! ;)

I need to look at more Astro :)
What I've seen suggests a lot of time and effort. The subject isn't a favourite but I admire the effort and technique.

I've not seen many pics of selfie taking so that's one to track down too!

HDR landscapes  wow! Is that a common occurrence? I need to check out more landscape groups :)

Ultra wide angle of a spiral staircase anyone? ;)

For me I find it about the same amount of time and effort in terms of travel, time taking the pictures and post processing as regular landscape, and less than sports or events, with three important caveats and one exclusion:
    1. Excludes pictures of deep sky objects composed from 100s of individual images over days. I've never tried that but would be very time consuming I think.
    2. It's vital to have a wide angle lens that is sharp wide open, otherwise it's endless messing about and ultimately less than satisfying results
    3. Timing has to be flexible. On clear nights with no moon I set the alarm as needed. E.g. Last week that meant getting up and out at 2am and back by 5am.
    4. Need to scope out suitable locations in advance so you know exactly where to go and no messing about in the dark. ideally with a good landscape and little street lights etc.
definitely worth giving it a try.

For me its putting the word 'photography' after their name. Makes them sound like a pro until you see the images.

    Birds...bugs...birds...bugs...

At the moment all the image sharing threads I watch elsewhere seem to be full of the same two subjects.
I suspect it's because lots of people have bought E-M1 Mkii and are using Pro Capture to photograph birds.

I'm confident she’s been posting over on TP recently, same style images, same posting format and images disappearing.

After a recent thread post though I don’t know if she will be around much longer, assuming I’m correct and it’s her of course but a recent selfie, subsequently deleted, did look like others I recall seeing.

    Loved her work

Agreed, although her photo style looks far more conventional in those two that are still remaining as of 8.15am 12-7-18 ;)

Yea agreed it's been quite entertaining over there and some of the comments bewildering. You still need to be quick to catch the pics, I missed the boyfriend one which seemed to upset a couple of posters, but that’s all part of the game :)

I kept looking for a few days but she didn't post anything new (and thought I couldn't blame her having to deal with that ****** GTG or whatever his sig is), but looks like I've missed more now then?

AMc (or at least his UK brother) 'liked' the sulking BF one perhaps he could tell us what all the fuss was about?

She did make me chuckle when she referred to me as 'the joint dude' even more funny as I’ve never smoked a joint in my life :smoke:

IIRC There was a slightly exposed nipple.

Like a lot of their work I'm never quite sure if the subjects of the images are in on the gag or the photographer is just much more observant than I am?
I've always assumed the photographer was female and the subjects were in the know which makes the TP comments all the more amusing.
Of course on the internet no one knows who you are - for all we know its some dodgy geeza with a long raincoat and a zoom lens :)
