So, I have a new job and a new Alienware gaming box and now I want to waste my money on video games -- and I am intentionally not going to make any restrictions as to what kind of game or whatnot.

Since I will also be gifting for Christmas, I just want to get the best and not buy a boner like the Matrix game. So, give me your top 5 if you have a chance!

Games available now, or available over the next 12 months?

Available now, my 5 would be :
    - Planetside
    - Championship Manager 03/04
    - Call of Duty
    - Freelancer
    - Rise of Nations
    - Star Trek Elite Force 2

    I know, that's 6, but I couldn't pick one to drop!

My top 5 games (with the system that I have bought them on )that are out now:-

    - Pro Evo 3 (Ps2)
    - Call of Duty (PC)
    - Need for Speed Underground (PS2)
    - Beyond Good & Evil (PS2)
    - SSX3 (PS2)

Although I didn't plan it that way the above 5 are all 5 different genres - Football, 1st Person shooter, Arcade racer, 3rd person adventure and snowboarding.

All great games and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending any of them.

An interesting topic which is always relevant.

For me at the moment it would be...
    • Little Big Planet (Just looks amazing and original)
    • Wipeout HD (one of my all time fave franchises)
    • Fable 2 (Another exciting game allowing great freedom)
    • Gears 2 (A big blockbuster that will hopefully live upto the hype)
    • FIFA 2009 (10 v 10 and i'm looking forward to seeing how FIFA moves on the genre this time)
    I'm also looking forward to
    • Resistance 2 (60 player online and 8 player co-op could be amazing!)
    • Too Human (Bar the camera I loved the demo, could be a great game to get into)
Sadly there's nothing coming from Nintendo this year that's really exciting me. Shame really, but I guess there's plenty coming for the PS3 & the 360.

That's a nice even list of genres you're looking forward to.

    Mine would probably go;

LittleBigPlanet - I probably haven't been as excited about a friendly type family game since Mario Galaxy and this has the potential to be just as good imo. Nice to see some originality in the PS3/360 war to get ever more realistic graphics and violent themes.

Fable 2 - I loved the original and even if this turns out to be essentially a graphically superior expansion pack i certainly wouldn't complain.

Left 4 Dead - I've never been much of an online gamer but the past month or so i've been playing Team Fortress 2 alot and i'm looking forward to a title that perhaps will force proper teamwork and tactics into the online arena ala TF2. Plus with the added bonus of zombies. :D

Fallout 3 - How can a game from Bethesda not be great? It's been a while since Bioshock and we haven't really had an intelligent shooter since.

Too Human - I liked the demno and it reminded me of Baldurs Gate which was a favourite of mine. I think it's been a little misunderstood but i'm sure i'll enjoy it which is all that matters.

    Well mine would be:

Street Fighter IV - Looking superb at the moment.

Resistance 2 - Really enjoyed the original and want to see how the story continues

Little Big Planet - If it really does play as well as its looking then this could be the biggest game this generation and possibly one of the greatest games of all time.

Gears 2 - Again loved the original and want to see what the sequel brings.

MK vs DC universe - Strange choice i know but it seems fighters are making a comeback now starting with Soul Calibur IV which is fantastic. Recent footage of this latest Mortal Kombat is looking promising and i hope its a return to form like the original was.

As for next year well theres only one game and one game only..........

RESIDENT EVIL 5, mark my words this is going to be thee game of 2009. Resi 4 is one of my favourite games of all time and so far this looks like surpassing it in every way.

I'm not copying everyone here, honest, but my top 5 anticipated are as follows:

    • Little Big Planet - I'm so in to the idea of this game, I've had to stop reading about it:D
    • Fable 2 - Thought the first one was great and have very high hopes of the sequel.
    • Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts - Loved both the games on the N64 and, from watching the E3 videos, like the way Rare are taking this. Hope they pull it off!
    • Fallout 3 - Looks unbelievably stunning, my only fear is I'll not get the time to do it justice.
    • Fifa 09 - Just recently picked up Fifa 08 after being a die hard Pro Evo fan for many years. If they can nail the responsivity issues then I think we'll have the best ever Footy game on our hands:)
As CAS says, a disappointing line up for the Wii, lets hope for better things for 2009:thumbsup:

Tough one for me, as I only have a PS3 (well, and a DS).

LBP is a given, really, really excited about it - just hope it doesn't get consumed by it's own publicity and ends up being a disappointment.

Star Wars Force Unleashed - trailers look very good, and is shaping up to be a - shock horror - decent Star Wars game

Resistance 2 - if it makes it this year

BioShock - because of all the MS owners I know who've recommended it to me.

Pro Evo 2009 because I still have (and play) 2008, and personally still think it's the best footy game

And a special mention for Viva Pinata DS as I havent bought a DS game since Zelda Phantom Hourglass.

My games i would like but probably won't buy is:
    GOW2
    World in Conflict
Spore(which IMO should of come out on the wii)
And thats about it not as big a list as this time last year.

    1. Fable 2 (360)
    2. Gears of War 2 (360)
    3. Fallout 3 (360)
    4. Infinate Undiscovery (360)
    5. Space Siege (PC)

If Play were to be believed then the 360 version of FFXIII would be in the list at second place but Oct this year for that title is about as optimistic a chance of the current government surviving another term in office.

Nice work CAS getting a nearly 4 and a half year old thread going again:smashin:.

The games i am looking forward too most currently are:

    Resistance 2 (60 players online!!!!!!)
    Motorstorm: Pacific Drift
Silent Hill 5 (long time fan of the series)
Fifa 09 (long time PES fan but enough is enough after the last one)
Resident Evil 5 (2009 i know but i am really looking forward to it)

I also own a wii but i am seriously considering selling it as there is nothing that interests me on the horizon. I can't really justify keeping a console just for Mario Kart and Galaxy no matter how good they are.

Yeah I was just taking a trawl through the old threads that I was subscribed to and felt that this was always a good topic to see what folk were looking forward to. It's funny to look back to the old games we were anticipating as well. :D

I must say that addyb made a good point that i'd never considered about my choice and that is the varied genre's it covers..

    Little Big Planet (Platform/Social)
    Wipeout HD (Racer)
    Fable 2 (RPG)
    Gears 2 (Third Person Shooter)
    FIFA 2009 (Football/Sports)

I must admit that I also missed Fallout 3 off my list for some reason, but i'm also really looking forward to that as well. Oblivion is an awesome game (one of the best this generation) and I have high hopes for Fallout 3 as well. The original Fallout was a classic, although the 2nd one received a mixed reception. Hopefully after Oblivion, this will be another classic from Bethesda :)

My most anticipated games over the next 12 months:
    - Overlord 2 (Just announced!)
    - Crysis: Warhead
    - Resident Evil 5
    - S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky
    - Fallout 3

All sequels so I'm obviously far too conservative ;) Plenty of other top titles coming though - far too many to ever play them all

At the moment these two are the only ones that interest me and probably the only ones i might get around to playing as well.

Resident evil 5 - Looks awesome and i loved the rest, especially 4 on the gamecube.

Banjo kazooie nuts and bolts - Banjo Tooie was the best platform game ever imo, untill mario galaxy was released nothing came close and yes that included banjo kazooie and mario 64, this looks like it could be the sequel i've been waiting for and a return to form for rare, check out the videos in the 360 game previews thread.
