    Hi,

What are the best DVD-RWs (trademark and speed) have you used with 100% burning and reading succes with the Tosh?.

Do you also try to read a DVD+R/+RW of which the bitsetting was put as DVD-Rom?

In this case, what was the DVD+R/+RW used for that purpose?

    Thanks,

Mark, did you try a few brands of DVD-RW 4X ? Is that in the manual? I've only tried a pack of Memorex 2X.

I've never tried 4X RWs, the manual says to use 2X, and I've seen many reports of 4X RWs that dont' work. But maybe some do...
4X and 8X -R are not a problem, it is RWs which should be 2X.

I use Datasafe DVD+RW x4 recorded on my PC with bitset to DVD-ROM.
They work flawlessly on the Tosh and load quickly (which is always a good sign).

    Hi,

I finally burned two DVD-RW (Verbatim x 2) and they are OK.

I also made a test with a DVD-RW (TDK X 4) which did not work with the Tosh when blank.

Through my PC I ripped a movie to the TDK. And then it worked fine (i.e read) by the Tosh.

    Interesting ins't it?

Yes, the issue with the 4X -RW discs is only when writing...

    Hi,

As redsox_mark said, the issue with DVD-RW X4 is when writing.

However I wonder if the real issue is the writing or the first initialization of the DVD.

Does anybody have already tried to initialize the DVD via a PC and tested if the DVD is then recognised by the Tosh?

The DVD-R blanks (Mitsubishi's) I bought along with the machine didn't work so I checked out the recommended discs on the various RDXS32 media threads. Covered myself by ordering a pack of 5 8x Verbatim Pastels (Taiyo Yuden) @ €4 which I knew would work according to Redsox and I also bought a spindle of 25 8x Datawrite Titanium Silvers @ €7 which I wasn't quite so sure about....from SVP (great Service, got them 2 days after ordering)

Anyway I burned 3 Datawrite Titanium discs last night and all three worked in all my dvd players with no glitches or hiccups. Woohoo!! :D (Avg 125mins @ 6.0mbps DDII)

So thats great news assuming my coster rate doesn't rise to 50% by the next three not writing correctly!!

    ie. 100x Datawrite Titaniums @ €28 + €15 p&p + Vat = approx €50 or 50c per disc
    -V-
    100x Verbatim Pastels @ €80 + €15 p&p + Vat = approx €100 or €1.00 per disc

Needless to say, I am thrilled that the Datawrite 8x Titanium silvers seem to have a 100% success rate for me so far. :D

the problem with TDK -RWs is not that they 'cannot be seen' - they are accepted by the tosh x32, but when you goto format them, It says ''this DVD is locked' - I cannot see any way to unlock this, or what it really means....

tried verbatim x2, worked ok... I'll see if I can find some x4s to try...
