Need an amp to go with a Pioneer DV565 that I'm thinking of buying but not sure which one to get.
I have heard that for the price range I am looking at 0-£320 the Marantz SR5400 and Yamaha DSPax640 are at the top of their class. Which of these are best or is there another amp recommended even higher then these two?

    Thanks

Sorry to hijack the thread. I too have an A565 and was looking around for an amp. Main use would be 80% video / 20% music.

Here are a few I have seen

    Yamaha RXV440
    Pionner VSX D712
    Harman Kardon AVR 2550
    Nad T742

    Any suggestions ?

Also worth considering the Sony db790 and Denon 1804 too. I went out planning to buy a Yam 640 and came back with an 1804 after listening to the back to back. The 1804 just seemed a lot better with music.

It really comes down to what kind of sound you like, so it's worth drawing up a shortlist and listening to as many as you can.

    Balders.

The Yam is note for a wide range of surround modes and i think thats what i would go for between the two but as always the best bet is to listen to both yourself of course

ive seen the 912 (witht the auto setup) for £330. A bargain in my mind and a perfect match (cosmetically) for the 565:D Also rated as a damn fine h/c amp!
