I'm looking to buy a new amp/receiver for use with my DVD player.

    I've got a budget of about £1000.

The Denon amps sound good value with lots of support for most of the audio formats. But is there something that is a 'must have', such as Dolby ProLogic II? And is have a THX certified amp worth it?

Any suggestions for all you experts out there would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
Glenn Keen.

What is a 'must have' for one person isnt a must have for all.
Take Pro-logicII - if you dont listen to any(or much) pro-logic encoded stuff(just 5.1 & stereo) then its a wast.

You've got feature rich recievers like the denon 3802 or simpler stuff like the rotel rsx972 which might sound better for music.

As always - decide what you need ( number/type of inputs/outputs wattage etc) and have a listen to a group of competing products.
