    Hi Guys,

I'm new so i apologise profusely if this has been covered, and, I am a beginner so i may not understand all the tech talk.

I have a Panasonic mini DV NVDS29B camcorder and am trying to record on to CDRW.
I have just managed to do it using the trial version of Pinnacle movie studio 9, I didn't manage it on Ulead studio 5.

    I have firewire connectivity.

My problem is this, the picture is appalling on the full 17 inch monitor and tv, however it is beuatiful on the small screens when editing, and the camcorder LCD screen with playback.

What am i doing wrong? Is my camcorder no good, I thought DV was supposed to be "lossless" but my old VHSC is heaps better!

I can't afford another camcorder and don't understand what's wrong.

I would appreciate any help guys!

    Thanks

    Jaime

Are you saying playback of the CDR is bad on monitor & TV ?

If that's what you are saying , then yes it probably will be. DV is lossless but the MPEG encdoing you have to make VCD & SVCD is not. If that is the case instead of buying a new camcorder do yourself a favour & buy a DVD writer. They are cheap & with that you should be able to create DVDs that will as good as your DV footage for a minimal outlay.

Agree that you should get yourself a DVD writer. With prices starting from £50 or less they are not that expensive and are a massive improvement over VCD or even SVCD.

In order of quality for output going from worst to best:
    VCD > VHS > SVCD > DVD > DV

You could try SVCD as a stop gap, but be aware that SVCD will not play on the majority of DVD players.

    Mark.

    Thanks Guys,

The CDR playback is really bad on both monitor and TV.

Also, the playback on the full screen monitor is bad using the video editing software. (Pinnacle movie 9 trial)

Windows movie maker is slightly better.

So all I need to do is buy a DVD writer and that will correct the problem?

Can you recommend one that accepts all the DVD formats?

    Thanks

I doubt you'll need one that will do ALL formats.

Pioneer's are generally well regarded, look at the latest of those. Think model number is probably 108.
