I know there have been threads relating to LCD technology improving over time, the SKY high def fiasco and recomendations about waiting before splashing out a shed load of money on a big flat panel telly but what about small LCD's for a bedroom ? Would you bother waiting given it is highly unlikely you will be able to distribute a high def signal throughout your house without massive cost from one SKY STB ?

Basically I have been offered what seems like a cracking deal on 3 Sony small LCD's none of which have DVI/HDMI. A 23LM1 and two 17HRS3's all in for £1350. All will be going into bedrooms. Would you buy now or wait ?

Ok mate I read the thread. The Tevion in the looks depts is a bit of a shocker but more to the point it is also not SKY HD compatible. Its a big TV for the price though so I can understand the attraction.

I just bought two of the Sony's in the end paying £900 for the 23M1 and the 17HR3. In kind of just decided that for the bedroom it makes naff all difference as I am unlikely to get HD transmitted up their anyway (think of the DVI/HDMI cable lengths I would need!).

I just set one of them up and am watching Badminton on BBC2 side by side with my 1 year old Tosh CRT and the picture in every dept is better on the LCD. I am going to ignore negative LCD related threads from now on :D.

You do right. Negative LCD threads are usually ill-informed.

Hey Rags, would you recommend the 23M1?

I got the Toshiba 27WL46 last week and I'm basically not that impressed with it. Was only looking for a 23" to begin with (bedroom use only) and only ended up going for the Tosh seeing as JL were doing it for £799. Taking it back tomorrow and trying to convince the wife that the Sony's the one to go for. Can get the 23M1 for £769 which I reckon is a damn good price.

I see the sound is only 8W in total...in real terms, does that make a massive difference for use in a bedroom? Secondly, cannot seem to find any brightness or contrast figures for it...are they quoted in the manual at all?

    Any help/advice appreciated.

    Thx

The sound is pretty good and more than suffices for my bedroom (18x16) . It goes loud enough and the dialogue is pretty clear.

Picture wise again I dont find the screen lacks brightness and viewing angles are pretty good. The box and instruction manual have now gone up into the loft but when I get a chance Ill take a look and report back.

The problem is that I didnt really compare the Sony's I bought to anything else, so I am probably not the best person to ask. I just got a good deal and went for them.
