    Hi folks

I'm looking to upgrade from 32" Sony Bravia to something 42" (no smaller, no bigger). I'd love to hear your advice, please.

    Don't need:
    - I'm not fussed about smart features (I'll plug those devices in) or 3D
    - I'm not a gamer

    Would be nice:
    - 3 or more HMDIs
    - built-in sound which isn't completely terrible
    - connections on the bottom/left*

    Must haves:
    - best possible picture quality for money
    - 42"
    - light, slim for mounting on plasterboard
    - reputable brand (Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung)
    - warranty (I'm OK with buying refurbished but prefer not second hand)

    * I know it sound odd.. but ideally, the connections should be on the bottom or on the right hand side (as you're watching the TV) because I'll be looking at the left side of the TV side-on as I walk into the lounge and don't want to be staring at wires every time!

My budget is only around £350 max.

I've been driving myself mad looking at Richer Sounds inc. their clearance stuff but I can't seem to find the right thing.

What would you recommend that I look at?

    Thanks in advance!

It is somewhat silly to stick to 42". Samsung for one doesn't even do this size but you should probably be looking toward Panasonic 42AS600 or 500 (349).
Sony 42W705/6B for 399 at Amazon if there is any stretch in budget or maybe refurb from Sony for less should one pop up; connections on the "wrong" side on most sets though

Have you looked at the Panasonic eBay refurb store? They have the 42as650b for £350, one year warranty. I recently got the 50" from john Lewis, more than happy, picture and sound. The HDMI are on the left, well two are, one is access from below. You do say you'd prefer the, on the left, then on the right so your post was confusing

If the TV is wall mounted how will you see the wiring if it's routed? I'm not sure I've ever seen a TV with them on the right. You should find the manual for most TVs online which usually show a diagram of the inputs

Just remembered the Samsung H6400 has the hdmi connections on the right side when watching from the front, perhaps more Samsung models in the 5000 series do but again no 42" Samsung in the UK. Samsung H5500 also HDMI connection on the side you want ...

    Thanks.

I have now come across this 43" set (didn't know anyone made that size).

    SAMSUNG UE43J5600

    (Aka UE43J5500)

I couldn't find any reviews. Looks like a new model? Anyone know it's any good? Seems to meet my criteria and I found one for £300 refurb

Can't help on recommendations, but Sony & LG also do 43" screens.

43" is replacing 42" in 2015. Samsung themselves don't produce a 43" panel so they've purchased them from another manufacturer, the same one Sony primarily uses. A 40" review of J5500 might therefore not be entirely representative of the 43" for example but that might be a good thing in this case. Seems worth a try ...

Great. That is useful to know. Sounds like I might have hit upon a good deal. Cheers.
