    Hi everyone,

Am considering purchasing a Wharfedale Diamond 150watt sub to complement a new Denon 1905 reciever. Being a bit new to the sub world, although have played bass guitar for 20 years, does anyone know if they are any good?

    Thanks in advance. Lazzer :)

 Come on guys, does anyone know anything about this sub pls??

I think it's part of the diamond 9 range and has a cherry wood finish......

    Thanks again. Lazzer

No experience, but I guess it's good in it's price range and maybe better than the older Wharfes. Go and listen?

I've had mine since mid December and I love it.

It is tight, controlled, warm, musical, deep and integrates well with the rest of the system. You could say, considering the price too, that I am more than pleased.

It has a good rep, and I heard one at the What Hi Fi Show in 2004. I was pleasantly surprised with its performance, a nice little subwoofer.

If we are referring to the SW150, you may need to take into account that the cross over frequency only goes up as far as 85hz.

Obviously if you are running satellite speakers this is going to have an impact.

Not as good as the BK, but pretty close, as long as your main speakers have decent range to cover the shortfall pointed out by scrapbook. Overall though, the BK is the better sub.

Others to look at are the Mordaunt Short MS409 and MS309. The Velodyne power buy currently running has some CHT subwoofers that may also be of interest.

    Cheers Kazman,
Have been to demo and ended up buying the Wharfedale. It sounded great to me and I couldn't wait to try any of the others! I guess a case of the money burning a hole in my pocket........

Initial impressions at home are great, but probably need to mess about a bit with the settings. Am currently still using the 5 panny 'all in one' speakers so they will be the next to go as funds allow. Any advice on (initially) the front three appreciated. Budget of about £150.........

    Cheers :smashin:

Depends on what you're after mate. If you're after a full range setup of either standmounters or floorstanding fronts, £150 will get you... nothing really worth having. If you only have a £150 max, you will be better of going for satellites. Maybe the MS Premiere system.

lazzer - have a search for canton speakers, you can buy them individually and they're much cheaper if bought from germany (check out the huuuuge canton CD1 thread for info)

they're great satellites and should fall within budget from germany (you can pay COD in pounds).

Congrats on the sub mate :) Keep us posted on how you get on with it.

As for speakers, I Think you would get more response in the speakers forum, probably an idea to start a thread there on it :)

Thanks all for the input. Am delighted with the sub thus far and am defo interested in the Cantons but will take a look at the MS Premier too.

Good advice Kazman, will no doubt be starting a Speaker forum thread up soon to aid in my quest for better sound.......
