Is this worth doing? I've yet to audition the QA 1010's, but they seem well received. The D 9.0's were only ever liked by What Hi-Fi, whereas the QA'a have a greater spread of positive reviews. Can a speaker costing the same as another really be that much better.

The WD 9's are good, but not as good as I'd hoped. Volume is not important, only the best sound quality is important for my small front room.

    Any thoughts?

The Q's look like a sideways step - I'd look further up the chain at speakers around £200-£250 eg. MA BR2, M Short, etc.

Wharfedale EVO2 8 Bookshelf Speakers can be had for £150 at Hifibitz. They have been reduced from £250.
