    Hi,

I have narrowed my choice of speaker down to one of these

    Wharfdale DX-1 (5.1) (£249)
    Tannoy TFX (5.1) (£199)

Okay I know these aren't the best, but they are driven by three requirements

    No more than £250
    White
    Small

Yesterday I had the opportunity to buy a second hand Kef 2005.3 for £250 but I turned it down. I may live to regret that but I decided that I really didn't want the gloss black.

I haven't found anywhere to audition either the Wharfdale or Tannoy.

This what I like about each

    Tannoy - small size, price
Wharfdale - compact size and finish on the sub, a feeling that the bigger size should produce a better sound

Both have 75mm drivers. The Wharfdale has 19mm tweeter whereas the Tannoy has 15mm.

    Similar sensitivity - 85dB

    Tannoys are 6 ohm
    Wharfadales are 4 ohm
    Not sure what this means.

For me, the Tannoys would be great from a size point of view but I feel that the Wharfdales give a richer sound. Having said that, although the Wharfdale cabinets are bigger the drivers are pretty much the same.

The Wharfdale sub is prettier, having rounded corners, and the same gloss finish as the satellites. Being front firing might suit my heavily carpeted/underlaid/thermal insulated floor.

Anyone experienced either of these, or have any opinions.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Personally having heard both in the past, I would go with the Tannoys. You should listen to both before buying, but this is not going to be easy.
