I purchased one of these yesterday for the bedroom, kind of impulse buy as it was only 29.99 UKP.

Gave it a thorough testing last night, plays the following :

    1) Region 2 DVDs
    2) Region 1 DVDs
    3) DVD-R
    4) DVD+R
    5) DVD-RW
    6) DVD+RW
    7) VCD
    8) SVCD
    9) MP3
    10) JPEG
    11) DIVX
    12) Dolby Digital Trailers stored as VOBs on DVD-R

Basically everything I could fling at this thing was played just fine, lots of differnt dyes tried too (Bulkpaq Orange, DataWrite Red, DataWrite Yellow, Ritek G04, etc).

Going to burn a good few DIVX files onto a DVD+RW today to see if it can play DIVX from DVD.

Can even picture search DIVX at 32x.

Bad points: The remote is a bit plasticky and quite directional. The tray is very very flimsy.

Connections : 5.1 Analogue outputs, Optical & Digital Coaxial, Stereo outs, Mini-Din SVideo out, composite out, SCART (RGB/composite only).

I would highly recommend this player as it certainly gives a good bang for the buck.

Very pleased with mine. Does lack progressive scan and component outputs which I could have done with though. Also no DTS or DPL2 decoder on the 5.1 outputs.

    It gets even better.

Burned about 10 MP3 albums onto a DVD and it plays them fine (my Pio 220 said CAN'T PLAY).

Also tried about 6 DIXV on 1 DVDR, again played fine.

Then Tried a load of .mpg files on 1 DVDR, fine again.

Not fussed about component etc, but VERY pleased with this player.

Can I ask whether your tray actually pops right out or do you have to feed in a cm or so of the dvd? mine seems really shallow too - almost like the dvd isnt sitting properly. Wonder how long before I need to get a screwdriver to it to prise open the drive!

This might be the kind of player i'm after. I know you've mentioned it will play region 1 & 2 discs, I assume it will also play region free discs (i.e those burned as region free onto dvdr). Do you know if it also play xvid files?

It will only play Xvids with unpacked bitstreams
All internet downloads will have packed bitstreams, so you need to run them thru a proggy called MPEG4modifier on your PC (takes 60 seconds) before recording them to cdr/dvdr for use in your skyworth.
Great piece of kit tho, plays every xvid/divx I put in it (once unpacked)

Does this player support subtitles in DIVX/XVID like the Pioneer 575 does?

Any idea about firmware support, if any.

You'll probable find this player is a OEM job and can find it under another brand...and perhaps newer firmware.

Do you need to new firmware though ? i.e whats wrong with the machine that needs fixing (remembering it cost a 29.99)

Well - I just got one from WH Smith in Woking Surrey. Not on show. I rang them beforehand and they confirmed they had some. Went down- not on show - got the lady to go out back and have a look and yo and behold - they have some.

Bought a Skyworth DVD 3650 DIVX player just before Christmas, it has now developed a overheating fault causing it to reset to the Skywoth screen after about 1 Hour from a cold start, it isnt helped by the fact the the air vents are underneath the player!
instead of on the side, anybody else got the resetting problem?

I have got it to play Xvid, using mpegmodifier to unpack the bitstream.
The only files it won't play are xvid/divx with AC3 soundtracks

I don't think it does, neither got prog scan or 5.1 optical ports.

I had a look at this unit, downers: require to unpack bitstream on xvids before it can be viewed, plus lack of other ports.

I got H&B 3255 unit and its all good, threw in everything i could find and works exceptionally well, 5.1 optical and prog scan, not bad for a player under £70! - and it plays all sub-titles formats too ;) - i was going to go with a DK/Yamada player but they seemed to lack one thiing from the other - so a lil more digging i found H&B - all the connections i required and a great lil performer! :)

Its a standard mediatek based player. It will do AC3, if it doesn't then something is wrong with the encoding. It can't do packed bitstream, it will do GMC and QPEL but only fairly limited.

How does one go about doing this mpeg4modifer but for an MPG? the file is 23fps and when played on player its not smooth playback - for divx/avi file its simply using mpeg4modifer but for mpgs what to do/use?

    ta!

mpeg4modifer is only for divx/xvid files, if you have a .mpg files then you will have to re-encode it using a program like TMPGEnc

Ah ic, could i convert mpg to xviDivx instead and then remove the packed bitstreams? or better to just re-encode mpg?

Better to just re-encode as turning an mpg file into a Divx/XviD file would be alot more complicated.

NX3 when you say it cant do packed bitstream is that what causes the picture to stutter? or will it just refuse to play?
    thanks

Packed bitsteam divx/xvid will cause the picture to stutter, it will play them. To make is smooth remove the packed bitstream (very simple) and it will play smooth.
