Western Digital Raptor hard drives.

Active Member
Hi all.

Currently I have a 120gb 7200 caviler hard drive by Western Digital. (16mb cashe)

I am condisering running windows on a 10000 rpm raptor drive. I want to know if any of you guys have this setup and noticed a speed diffrence in boot times.

I will use the 120 gb as a slave for programs and documents.

Any Replies would be very much appreciated.

Yes mine is faster but noisy and it was expensive. I might be tempted to go with 2 fast 7200 drives in RAID 0 over a Raptor myself these days, taking into account the failure possibility is higher with 2 drives.
i.e. 74 Gb WD740ADFD Raptor = £93.06
2 * Seagate 160GB 7200.10 ST3160815AS = £68.00

Take a read of this.
Although the WD Raptor clearly remains the fastest Serial ATA desktop hard drive, the RAID 0 array beats it in most benchmarks except access time and I/O performance...Enthusiasts willing to accept the higher risk of data loss in RAID 0 should carefully consider a RAID array consisting of two cheap 7,200 RPM drives over the WD Raptor.
