Could anyone tell me if either the R1 or R2 version includes english subtitles please?
The region1 has English subtitles.
I've just checked as I was watching it earlier
I'm about to order the R1 version of the complete series collections and I would like to know for sure if this version has English subtitles.
I've checked various review sites and Google and find conflicting information regarding this. Some information states that there are English subtitles but they are presented as 'close captioned', a system that only works with a special decoder (Like the BBC subtitling service via Text 888).
The French and Spanish subtitles are apparently presented as normal selectable DVD style subtitles.
English is not my first language and I'm afraid most of the political jargon will get lost on me without subtitles.
Looks like the last 2 Seasons don't have English Subtiles on Region 1
Search this for info.
I know that all seasons on R2 have subtitles.
I just received the R1 box set from Amazon.
Seasons 1-5: English audio, English French & Spanish subtitles.
Seasons 6-7: English audio, Frensh & Spanish subtitles.
Just like the separate season retail boxes. However on the full series box set no mention of subtitles is made at all.
You should also be aware, that although all the Region 2 boxed-sets of each of the 7 seasons made of "THE WEST WING" DO contain English subtitles, most of the sets do NOT contain the extras that the Region 1 editions contain!
I can't believe Warner's have given UK viewers such an appalling version of what has to be one of the best shows ever made for TV.
I'm not 100% sure but it looks like on R1, season 2 has been converted from 4:3 to anamorphic 16:9. The 'previously on' and the intro theme are still 4:3 but the show itself looks blown up and even a little stretched.
So in the case of season 2 the PAL version might be the better choice.
