After going to John Lewis to check it out and make sure it was OK, a Sony KLV26HG2 is on its way to me :)

I'll post my impressions once it arrives, according to the guys it might even be tomorrow :D

    As promised:

VERY happy with the set :) No noticeable motion lag, black level is very acceptable (but obviously not up to CRT standards), and the video through Progressive Component from my Pioneer DV668AV is very pleasing to the eye indeed.

    Pros:

    * I'm happy with the picture quality in all aspects.
    * The on-screen menus are VERY nice, it's nice to see an LCD with menus that don't belong in the CRT age.
    * Component Video Input, progressive scan capable.
    * Very good deinterlacing - I've only seen it screw up once or twice on very fast games.

    Cons:

    * A little limited on the connetions side - only 1 RGB enabled SCART input - the other I think is S-Vid and Composite only, only 1 set of Component inputs, and no DVI input like the American model (although I guess the RGB Scart input is more useful to me, but it would have been better to remove the second SCART and replace it with a DVI or VGA).

Uhhh.. any questions anyone wants to ask?

    how much?

I'm looking for a tv for the spare room, and started off looking at 17" widescreen LCD. Since I'll be using it as an escape room for playing games away from the kids/bargain hunt, the size is slowly going up as I find my sweet spot for price.

I'm currently settling on 22/23" for about £650, but wouldn't mind knowing what the next step up is.

This is probably out of your price range then - it was £1230. I think the store price is about £1800.

There is no VGA or DVI input, but I'm going to order a DVI-to-Component converter some time and try out my ATI Radeon 9800 video card on it. This method allows me to output 480p, 720p or 1080i.

(I'm guessing there will be a noticeable degredation of image quality? Buit I'm not totally sure.)
