Well, After about 3 weeks of research, and some help from you guys on here.

    Thanks Hornydragon.

Tomorrow I will receive my TH-42PW7B from AV-sales. With a dual component board, DVI board(When they are in stock) and a JS RGB to VGA converter. Booked the day off, can't wait now.

What picture settings should I use? I know I've got to drop the contrast and the brightness, has anybody got the settings for this?

I'll keep you guys informed on what I think of the screen..

got mine from av sales yesterday and have got it in normal mode and will keep it in that mode for the 200 hours, suggest you leave advanced settings alone for now and just move contrast down as low as is bearable...in reality I'm sure that you would really to have go some with contrast and brightness to cause damage. But better safe than sorry. I've also turned on screen saver and 'wobble' as further precautions and have told family not too spend too long watching any single channel with red dots or screen logos and to avoid pausing anything in sky+ for too long (and put screen on standby if they do have to do that)

So what are your first impressions of it?

Which model did you go for?

same model as you and first impressions are that it's fantastic...you will not regret your decision!!! you may have seen from other threads that ialso have a tiny 42" and frankly there is no comparison, the PW7 is miles ahead in every department. Set up was real easy, I have the low profile stand whichtook about 10 mins to assemble (easier with 2 people!). Aslo got the dual component board which is all I need as sky+ goes via dmr e55 > pw7 via component and bnc converters. The board is incredibly easy to fit...just removed the cover pates form sockets 1 and 2 slotted it in and screwed it up and ready to go!

I've also ordered the low profile stand. Got my sky going through the JS RGB to VGA converter.

Also got my HD M$ leads for my Xbox, been playing about with that for the last couple of days, getting it ready for tomorrow, Used enigma NTSC switcher to change it from PAL to NTSC so I can use progressive... :D

The only question I have is, would it be possible to run my Sky Digital to my video scart in and then my video scart out to JS RGB to VGA the thing is my Video is not RGB. Will that still work or do I need to route my Sky straight into the JS box then straight into my Plasma?

sorry mate can't help with that...beyond my knowledge. Is the enigma switcher just a piece of software you run on the xbox?

Yep. Couldn't beleive how simple it was. I think your Xbox needs to be chipped thou for it to work.

I put the disc in, let my xbox boot up. Gave me two choices PAL Or NTSC, it was already on PAL, rebooted tried it again and it was already set to NTSC, it stores it on the eeprom. So I'm getting ready for some HD gaming too. Not too much thou, want to let me Plasma bed in gently...

I didn't chip it myself, but it isn't suppose too be hard, as long as you have some soldering skills. which I have none...

Took mine to a shop to be done, £50 for the crystal Xbox and £40 for the older ones..

That one was a local one by me.

But if you ever see a computer show anywhere, 9 out of 10 times you can get them done there. I normally go to the Northern computer Fairs, even thou it says Northern, they do come to the midlands.

Chipping allows you to use the Enigma NTSC disc, so you can change it to NTSC. I mean changing it to NTSC allows you to play games in 480p(i.e Progressive) some games even go higher 720p and even 1080i. I shall let you know tomorrow, gotta be better than my 7 year old sony 42" rear projection. :rotfl:

Also allows you if you get Superdisc 3.7 which has loads of utilities on it for the Xbox. one of the utilities allows you to use your control pad to play DVD's instead of buying the remote. You can also use your xbox as a media box, playing mp3's and even streaming video.

Also allows your to play imported games and backups. :nono:

If you want any info on the Xbox and the benfits of chipping, have a look here. Xbox forum

    cyberbob69,

what do you mean by 'bed in' i thought that this was more to do with the amount of time it took for the pq to reach optimum, do you need to be 'gentle' when the screen is new? and why?

I heard that getting the Xbox chipped means you can't use Xbox Live anymore. Is this true?

in theory you are meant to run at a low contrast for first 200 hours...I beleive it is more precautionary than anything else but its not exactly a problem to do this i have contrast and brightness at -2 and its fine...i'll ramp it upa bit and experiment with various settings in teh different modes after 200 hrs.

its meant to protect against 'burn'

Not true, I've been using 1 for a year. You need to turn the chip off. Best not to change size of harddrive. Microsoft have been banning mis-matched drives and epprom numbers.
