I am very happy with my home cinema kit which I put together with the help of many chaps on this forum.

    TV Sony KV32FQ70
    DVD Pioneer A565
    Amp Pioneer VSXD712

    Speakers
    Mission M74i fronts
    Mission M3c2 centre
    Mission M3ds rears

At the time I had not purchased a subwoofer. I can just manage to sqeeze 200 Stg and was thinking of getting the Mordaunt Short MS309 (selling at 229 Stg from Richers). I have three questions. Is it available in black ? Will it match the Missions ? Will it be a considerable improvement to my kit since I consider the M74i to have decent bass .. but then I am no audiophile ?

When I bought my first subwoofer many years ago I also thought that my floorstanders had plenty of bass but I was pleasantly surprised when I first heard what the addition of a sub did to the sound.

    Cheers

I think ToF mentioned something about there being a concentration of production on the Maple version due to its popularity, therefore black ones are more difficult to get hold of right now while demand is met for the Maple.

I could be wrong though, if so, feel free to slap me and stick an SVS up my plug hole (as long as I get to keep it afterwards ;))

Richer confirmed that they only stock the beech and silver finish which won't match my black Mission M74i. Anyone spot the black version elsewhere ?

HiFi Bitz are generally worth a look. I am assured that another black batch will be built before the season kicks off. Chances are, it will be a single large batch for that period.

There effectively are a couple of options I have, even though they may seem draconian.

    A can of spray.
    Black Contact paper.

    Any comments ?

Anrasp, I have learnt that we aren't doing a black batch until September which won't arrive until October. Sorry to say that trying to maximise sales through the two most popular colours does mean that others slip through the net :(.

You can have a 909 in black though :)............

Ok ...can't wait much longer as my brother is coming down next month and we should be placing an order next week. Since the Mordaunt MS309 is not available in black ... I probably will end up doshing out an extra 60 quid for the BK XLS200. The + side is that it comes with a 10M High Level Lead and a 5M Phono to Phono cable ... which leads me to ask another question : what is the High level Lead for ?

The high level lead is for connecting the sub to the speaker terminals on the amp and is mainly used nowadays for connecting to stereo amps with no LFE socket or bass management.

That will do for connecting it but I have no idea of the quality of the cable and a good quality cable will improve the quality of the sound.

Maybe a BK user can comment on the quality of the supplied cable but if it is anything like other freebies it won't be much good.

    Hi All

We have taken on board the comments about the phono to phono included with the XLS200 I especially like the comment someone made that they wouldn't use it as bell wire. Anyway, we are going to upgrade the phono to phono to a higher quality cable that usually retails at about £10, there should be more details on the website later this week.

@Dan Gleebles .... thanks for your positive approach :smashin:

If the sub is ordered today (with the upgraded phono cable ;) ) how long does it take to get delivered to Brighton ?

    Anrasp,
I tried the MS309 and although I thought it's a good sub, the XLS is better. (That's what I have now).
I have a Pioneer AV amp also (812) and using the cable supplied by BK does not do it justice. The ten meter high level cable is a nice touch though, thanks BK. (Not that I've actually used it yet).

Get yourself a decent cable. I ended up getting one from subzero cables and am happy with the service I received.

In the mean time, when the sub arrives, open the boxes (yes boxes) very carefully. Slowly peel back the stickytape and roll it all up to make a long thin tube. Next, stick a couple of plugs on each end of the roll of tape and use that as your cable. It will give a better response to the one supplied!!

Seriously, the supplied cable is nothing special. The money goes (and rightfully so) into the design and build of the sub. Get a decent cable and your AV system is complete. (Until the next upgrade, that is!!)

    Enjoy!!

    shr

To be fair to BK - the supplied low level cable may not be of the highest quality but most other people don't supply one at all.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking BK. I paid 288GBP for a subwoofer, not a cable. And boy did I get a good a sub!!
    Well done BK.

But I agree that it's good BK actually supply one at all. It's great to be able to get through all the package and actually start using the product there and then.

I really stretched my budget to go from a Tannoy Rsub15 (Stg 150) -> Mordaunt Short MS309 (Stg 220) -> BK XLS200 (Stg 279), but you guys are so convincing and I have happy with the system I put together with the help of you folks.

However I have really stretched my Budget am I seeking not to spend more than 20-25 Stg on a sub cable. I will be needing a 6mt one. I wish to get the best out of the XLS200 (which I will be ordering tomorrow). It's a pity BK don't offer an upgrade option if the cable supplied ain't that good (even at a cost).

That said ... what suggestions for the cable ?

I'm also desperately looking for a black MS309, as I've got a full set of black avants. I've got the money burning a hole in my pocket, but I just can't find a black one.
Tried calling my local Richers, but they know nowt about a black batch.
Tons of Fun, do you know when this batch will be ready, and available, and also where I may get one from?
