Weak pound push up prices?

I guess its a really bad time to buy anything at the moment? On the 14 Jan I wanted to buy a Canon 50mm 1.4 from Warehouse Express at £219, but now its £295  , the 70-200 F2.8 was £776 and now its now £999  .
Has anybody else noticed that there has been a steep price increase in most prices? What do I do? do I wait or do I just buy now just incase it gets worse

I suppose you have to ask yourself whether or not you need it. And if you need it do you need it sooner rather than later.

I've just bought myself a 70-200 F2.8 IS 2nd hand but in mint condition with 6 months warranty for £950. New it would be £1,273. I could have bought it for about £850 new last summer but I didn't. I need it before May because I have a couple of jobs which will require it so I thought now was better than later. I can't see the pound recovering too quickly and firgured 2nd hand prices would be going up now too.

You mean £1549 (at Warehouse Express)

Something that also caught my eye was that the Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L IS is now £929 but the Canon 5dMK2 + 24-105 F4 IS is £2498. So does this mean if you buy this package and sell the lens that you are getting the camera for £1569?

What it's saying to me is buy 2nd hand. I had no intention of really buying another lens any time soon but see a Nikkor 12-24 DX on the forum for £430 as opposed to about £630 buying a new one and thought why not unlikely it will fall in value in the current climate. On a personal level it's all good for me as all my existing stuff seems to be increasing in value.

CameraPriceBuster is a really good site as mentioned above.

I'm looking for a 450d with 18-55mm lense. If I had bought it 6 months ago it was £349, but todays best price is £449! That seems to be the general trend of other DSLR's too.

I really dont think now is the time to buy, and for the 450d I'm waiting for around the £300-£350 mark.....it could be a long wait. I also understand that the Canon £50 cash back offer expired on the 12th Jan, but there hasnt been any reduction in prices since then.

Its an amazing fact that people who bought the 450d (and many other cameras) 12 months, can actually stick them on eBay now for more than they paid for it!

I've noticed that old HK favourites like Onestop Digital are now more expensive than some UK outlets.

For example the Nikon 17-55mm is £986.99 but W/House Express is only £928. It was even less last time I checked.

I suspect that that will change as UK suppliers have to replace existing stocks with new imports that will be hit by the low value of the pound though.

I see that Sigma's prices are now starting to go up (I guess based on available stock)

The Sigma 50mm f1.4 which I paid £299 for a few weeks ago is now £370.

Still £315 at WHE.

Check out RGB-Tech though - the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is up from £310 to £550!

Some of the prices for new products being announced are just mad. I can't believe it's viable to launch some of these "premium compacts" like the new Canon SX200 at £370ish. Where's the market for that at the moment?

I was wondering when the exchange rate issue was going to bite. My son and I were discussing this at Christmas time, and he wanted to buy a PS3 at a good price. I told him to go ahead, because once the shops inventory had gone, and they had to re-purchace stock, the new prices were inevitably going to be higher.

From where I live, internet shopping in the UK has represented tremendous value recently, compared to Euro pricing, but now that margin is going to close. Faster than I thought! UK folks are going to have to pay the same prices for imported goods as the rest of mainland Europe, soon!:thumbsdow

I live in Germany, I purchased my Canon 450D from the UK becuase it was €150 cheaper, I think the price increase is due to customers buying outside of the Uk..
