Hi All.
I recently moved a WD external 1T drive from my old PC and attached it by firewire 400 to my iMac. The iMac recognised it at once and the files contained on it. However when I try to move any files from the iMac to the external drive, I get the following message;
The item “ “ could not be moved because “WD My Book” cannot be modified.

What on earth does this mean and how can I get around it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Right-click on the icon for the WD external drive and you should see that the format is NTFS. You will have to re-format this drive if you want to write to it.

If you are using the WD for Mac's only, then choose the native format. If you want this drive to be shared with Windoze machines, then choose FAT32. Be aware of limitations.

Some people choose to use MacDrive, but I don't.
