Odd question: do any blu-ray discs have an option to watch the movie with JUST the music soundtrack playing rather than all the dialogue? I've been enjoying the soundtrack albums to the Star Wars movies recently - The Last Jedi soundtrack is wonderful - and can't help but think it would be nice to be able to play them in Blu-ray DTS-HD MA quality but without the sound effects and dialogue over the top.

Is this or has this ever been a thing?

Superman The Movie has a music only audio track in Dolby Digital 5.1, which is a great way to listen to one of the finest scores ever composed IMHO.

I don't understand why this isn't more common. I'd be more interested in this on most discs than I would in the multiple different commentary tracks...

The DVD version of North By Northwest has a music only track I listened to, love the track(no pun intended) when there on the train in the middle of the film sounds like some classical.

I remember that the Apollo 13 DVD played the music soundtrack over the menu. You had no control over it so you couldn't skip to the next track.

I'm pretty sure all the Twilight Time releases feature an isolated score track, as long as you're region free.

Inception bluray comes with the 5.1 soundtrack on a separate disc. However, it's soundtrack only so you can't watch the movie.

Resurrecting an old thread, I know, but I've just read the following in the bluray.com review of the US release of The Last Jedi:

"Note that the digital Movies Anywhere version (included with purchase) contains a unique isolated score version of the film that is not included on disc."

Given that TLJ was the soundtrack that made me start the thread in the first place, I'm keen to work out if this version is available with the UK release (out next week) or if I should order the US version instead... Anyone got any insight?

Almost certain it won’t be on the UK version since this is a digital exclusive and not on any disc.

As it’s movies anywhere only, you could have a look at the UK iTunes & google play stores & see if the UK digital version also offers the isolated score. Might be cheaper than buying the US BD once you factor in P&P & any customs charges.

I'm pretty sure E.T. had this on the DVD though and it was spectacular

Turns out the Alien Anthology Blu-rays I've had for years also have isolated score tracks for all four movies. What I've heard of Aliens so far is phenomenal.

Still can't understand why more films don't include this option on the discs. I know it would give me more incentive to buy a physical disc copy of a film.

Definitely not currently available in the UK which is a shame.
The US have it as an extra on the iTunes purchase too now, UK goes without as always.
As Disney don’t give out Digital copies in the UK I was hoping it would have been an added extra on the disc but it wasn’t to be.

So frustrating. This would really have given me an incentive to purchase a digital version, maybe in addition to the disc if it was an online only thing. However, since Disney have given me no possible way of legally accessing this content, then, well...

I have never ever watched a movie with the commentary track(s) on. I can see why it might be interesting, but it's just never appealed to me. So I'm fully with you to watch a movie with just the score and (music) soundtrack

You’ll have to get the US disc & redeem the code on the US iTunes store (simple enough to do), or alternatively get a US iTunes gift card from ebay etc & then buy the film on the US iTunes store.
