    If you do eventually manage to wire it up so you can watch it whilst driving could you please let me know when and where you will be on the roads so I can take an alternative route. Thanks.

    Maybe his passenger wants to watch a DVD whilst they're on a long journey?

    The Pioneer AVIC X1 is exactly the same and yet you can use the Sat Nav whilst driving. Surely a map is just as distracting as a movie? So, yeah, it's a stupid restriction

    Under Regulation 109 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, it is an offence to drive a motor vehicle on a road if the driver is in such a position as to be able to see, whether directly or by reflection, a television screen showing anything other than information:

    (a) about the state of the vehicle or equipment;

    (b) about the location of the vehicle and the road on which it is located;

    (c) to assist the driver to see the road adjacent to the vehicle;

    (d) to assist the driver to reach his destination.

    As the driver you can only have view of a screen for other purposes when you are parked. A lot of Sat Navs will give verbal commands so you needn't look at the map.

    It should only be viewable by the driver when the parking brake is applied.

    On my IVA D300R all I had to do was change the earth from the handbrake to another source.

    I do not watch dvds whilst driving but this mod allows my wife to select functions from the dvd menu for our children watching in the rear.

    Who in their right mind would watch a movie while trying to drive a car, come on guy's keep it real. :lease:

    This is hopefully a joke...if not,then it should be filed alongside the idiots who try to drive whilst holding a phone in one hand and changing gear with the other.

    Those of us who deal with the carnage created by this sort of thing,let alone the victims of it,would be delighted to see it made utterly impossible.

    FWIW,our friend's country of origin is listed as the USA,and hopefully their laws are equally strict regarding this sort of thing.

    Reminds me of that story on BBC News about the chavvy boy racer who was crashed because he was watching a Colin Mcrae demo (had a screen and ps2 connected) on his in car screen.

    A 'right mind' is not a requirement for a driving licence. :rolleyes:

    Wasn't there a London Underground driver sacked a while ago after being found watching a portable DVD player in the cab?

    While we're on it, can someone please tell me how to fit a retractable seat to my car so that I can have a nice comfortable doze while I'm doing 80 on the m1.

    Not sure if La-Z-Boy do these? Seems like a sensible idea, after all the road safety guys are always telling us to take a rest - and cruise control and armco can take care of most things.....

    There really should be an intelligence test introduced in this country, something like a series of questions at the front door of every home. If you can't answer the questions the door won't open. Would certainly make my day a lot easier (i work in retail :D ) and it would seem the roads would be a lot safer as well.

    You really think so?!? Are you and exclusiveicon related?

    an interesting idea but it doesnt go far enough. Think of all the time and resources that would be wasted keeping them in their homes, feeding them, clothing them in white tracksuits and baseball caps, the drain on tax payers monies...

    I feel a test at the age of 21 say, thought could be applied at an earlier age for those clearly showing no potential. Failure would result in post natal abortion. Just think, it makes more housing available, reduces the unemployment figures, reduces the State Benefit expenditure and hence lowers levels of taxation and would lead to a reduction in crime as well....

    It should work.... or am I missing something... ;)

    Sorry don't know how to quote stuff...

    I read this and thought about it for a minute, does this mean it's illegal to drive past a TV shop?

    Just a thought.

    About 3 years too late I know, but I thought I would reply for anyone searching in Google as I just typed in 'pioneer dvd player' and this thread came up.

    This wiring is very simple to do, and is not to do with watching whilst driving, and that is something which I do not condone obviously... But if you do have a passenger that wants to watch it then they now will be able to.

    Just earth the wire! It works as simple as that - just earth the switch wire. Worked fine on my P5900

    Cheers
    Nick

    I had never seen the last half of Rainman and couldnt find my auidiobooks on a 7 hour trip in Mexico so I put my laptop on the dash.

    Its really quite simple... Watch: Road... rainman... mirrors... road.... Raaaaaiiiiinmaaaaaaan.... swerve.... road... rainman.... road... speedometer.... repeat.

    I signed up on this forum just to share this bit of wisdom with you. By the way, the day after tomorrow Im going from the Brownsville to Houston Texas in case you want to take alternative routes, hahaha.
