A massive massive assumption, but you know what's going to happen when the catch this nutter(s) and happen to find a few games such as Unreal Tournament, Hitman etc

Big implications for the industry if it happens

...and check out the new film 'Phone Booth' with Kiefer Sutherland.

Take a look at the plot and trailer and then think about whether it'll be able to come out on it's scheduled November release date...

    Now that's flippant!

It's pretty bad that we can see exactly where this is going. If/when they find him, they are going to search for any books, movies, music, or games that could have possibly caused him to commit these actions.

Then, whatever they find will be branded "evil" for approximately 8 months. (give or take) Enquiries into this guy's background or upbringing (most likely the real cause) will be cursory.

And it doesn't matter what it is. The WWF had to stop their wrestlers from wearing trenchcoats after the Columbine killings for fear of upsetting delicate sensibilities in the wake of that tragedy. (I sh*t you not)

Nice one Silverback... and I would bet a year's wages that guy has either:

    (a) a heavily religious background
    (b) a heavily authoritarian/disciplinarian background

They are what tend to turn people into monsters, not watching films and listening to music... but then, society can't/won't ever admit that.

Absolutely agree Squiffy. How many people must own high power rifles in the States? The Land of the Free is now become the Land of the Vulnerable (unfortunately).

Let's not kid ourselves here, it might not be easy to get hold of high velocity rifles but pretty much anyone in this country can get hold of a gun if they make minor effort and have the cash.

As for the demonisation of stuff, the media will only make something the scapegoat if it doesn't have powerful political lobbies. (eg, organized religion and guns) There are very few politicians (if any) who are willing to defend videogames, movies, or music.

Slightly off-topic, if you get a chance, take in "Bowling for Columbine" if/when it shows in your area. It's Michael Moore's documentary about the Columbine killings, and also an in-depth look at the gun culture in the US.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm very anxious. Apparently, there's a great bit about 2 cities separated by a bridge. One is in Canada, and the other is in the US. The level of violent crime in the US city is much higher than the Canadian one, even though they are just a few miles apart.

True - but the lack of high velocity rifles makes the current situation less likely in the UK. OK I could probably get a gun, but I'm not going to be able to use it without being close to my victim and probably getting caught.

I dare say that if you can properly USE a high velocity rifle, you probably also know exactly where to get one.

    Hi Guys,
Okay ,what of these kids that have threatened to kill there teacher
using a tape recorder(GTA vice city has nowt to worry about). Now if they used some other form of weapon that could be held up in court ,it wouldnt be so much of a mystery as to why they should be convicted. Yet they arent going to expelled but "told off". Is it not wrong for anyone to threaten the life of another let alone shoot them dead and face a penalty. Movies and games are not to blame but the surroundings in which these "people" are being raised. Its got sod all to do with movies and gaming. Its Parental!

    Oh, the shock! :)

It was obvious it would be delayed because:

    (a) The studio would have had pressure put upon it to show some sensitivity, at least until the sniper has been caught and dealt with.

    (b) The studio knows damn well it can effectively acheive Worldwide promotion for this film on every TV News show for the coming weeks if it spins things the right way... priceless.

I still think it interesting that Sutherland goes from being a snipee (did I just make up a word?) in 24 - on the dock - to being the sniper in a few short months :)
