Any idea what can cause this before I pull it out and poke round with out much of a clue ?

It seems the water comes out slowly into the tray were you put the liquid ?

Which means it takes ages to fill the main part of the machine ?

Do your taps run as normal ?, there is normally a gauze filter where the hose screws onto the back of the machine ...

    Water pressure is fine.

It has two hoses going into the back off it ?

Most water inlets on machines have a filter of some sort afaik, can sometimes get blocked up a little and stop it working properly.

or as we found out , the friendly removal company we used connected up the washing machine for us , they got the hoses the wrong way round , hot to cold , cold to hot , took us a while to work out why the washing was coming out red hot at the end of the cycle
