I bought It’s a Wonderful Life on its release and never notices the colour/shading was slightly in sepia until the other year it was being shown on TV and thought I would get my copy out and play that rather than the one being transmited and noticed that version was B&W not the slightly brown colour mine was.

Today I Laurel & Hardy was on and the aspect ratio was not quite 4:3 so I switched over to sat and the picture went from B&W to slightly sepia.

How come when their transmitting the same film it comes out in two different shades?

    Garrett.
I have noticed that on sky one for instance some thing like the simpsons will have a slightly different colour balance if swithced between rgb and composite. Yellow can look very slightly more red on Homers skin :D
Could this be the answer, rgb and composite processing slightly changing the colour balance and giving you the two different tones of black and white.

I do not know after the difference with the DVD and the transmitted on I looked at a old recording of It’s a Wonderful Life and that was more B&W, but that as long since been wiped.
