Just by the trailer alone it does give off a Peaky Blinders ( I'm currently binging on once again ) vibe . Will definatly give it a go now :smashin:, just my cup o tea.

Nice bit of passion in the review.
I've seen the first few episodes thus far and liked what I saw.
Your mention of Deadwood, Cas, stands up but also reminded me that had Ah Sahm of been there and a lowly Celestial; his ass-kicking the Irish cops would of got him shot or, at the end of a rope - bit short for a series - as he wasn't established with the bosses.
There's been documentaries/books on the predominately Irish police forces that instituted themselves in and around the era of America's formation of Government which are very revealing and demonstrative of the power grab these made and all too frequent brutality issued to maintain them. In the setting for Warrior, it sits rather well with the corruption and blending of gangs and nationalities in power relationships and, somewhat, blind eyes to racial differences where favour to profitable outcome and power ruled.
The martial arts scenes are well choreographed and not too superhuman or jokey - aside from belittling the vanquished, which is good fun. It is clear too that in these, they went to length to score a visual mind jogging for the masterful Bruce Lee's memory.
Also, many of the characters are not just meat to be seen or pummeled but are given depth and room to grow. This, again, reminds of Deadwood where both the male and female characters could surprise and nationalities crossed paths with preconceived notions of ranking that could, however, be crossed in certain situations.
Seeing things from an Asiatic perspective on what was what and who was who is both fun and enlightening within the confines of this Cinemax production. It has given rise to the odd HI-YAH! flying around this household.

An aside, why are series labelled as Movie for reviews? Seems odd and misfooting for readers.

Watched first 5 eps last night (That is correct, I do not have a life) :D
From the makers of Banshee and you see why (which was 110% high octane, taking a chicane at Copse corner (silverstone) at 200+ mph, pedal on the metal TV series.
I don't know anyone that says a bad word about it.............

When folks used to make love instead of playing with phones or gaming on tablets :)

Anyway, Warrior takes time to build up, getting know the characters, strong females, lots of pom pom, fight scenes, pre-PC era language.. what's not to like?

This is for those that have had enough of the so called polished TV series that come out of the states where you have some chick in a tight dress, taking on ISIS in the desert on her own and not a strand of hair moves in the wind, never runs out of bullets, always finds the serial killer and has a great home life.....

      More please...
      Thank you for covering this...
I need to crack on and finish this.
      Thanks
      :D

Maybe it is obvious to those who've already accessed it, but the review doesn't mention where you'd need to go to do so. I'm assuming the review relates to its airing via SKY in the UK?

I did in 1996 whilst living and working there for two years. I never knew about it until I visited the Cementary for a family relative.
Please do. Once in a lifetime experience. Something to tell the grandkids one day.
      Good man :)

thanks for the review, on the strength of that I checked it out and it's pretty decent. I'll do this one old school and go at the weekly Sky pace, I think. At least that way I'll have something good to watch over the next few weeks :smashin:

Just watched the first two episodes, the dialogue is a little cheesey in places and some of the fight scenes are sped up ala Cynthia Rothrock, but it's pretty good.

Not as good as Banshee as that was just all out carnage.

There's a Banshee sign on the exterior of the pub that the working peoples party or whatever it is are having their drunken meeting when the copper leaves in episode 1.

Solid 8/10 from me and I watch a lot of booah.

Reading the above I assumed this was on Sky Atlantic. So after searching I was pleased to see it’s on One, so us Virginmedia people can see it too!

Best TV show out at the moment.

Disagree with Casimir on one thing. Joe Taslim is much more like Bruce Lee than Andrew Koji. While Koji tries to implement some of Bruce Lee's mannerisms, Taslim nails Bruce from everthying from posture, mannerisms and martial arts - he even resembles Bruce. Taslim also is actually is a Wushu exponent (among other martial arts) and it's clearly evident. His martial arts ability really adds believability to the fight scenes - The Raid was excellent.

While Koji was clearly very athletic I was left unsure as to Koji's martial arts experience as some parts left me questioning his ability. His technique didn't quite look right. I'd like to know whether he is actually a martial artist or 'trained for TV'.

For the record, it's nothing like Deadwood. Deadwood was all style and no substance, and after 3 seasons didn't actually go anywhere - no wonder it was axed.

I finished it last night after two days of watching, really enjoyed it, I just came across it while searching on Now TV and I'm so glad I did. I would highly recommend this show and I would also recommend Banshee as some have mentioned, also an excellent show. :)

As others have said perhaps the first two episodes are a little weak. Then there are a couple of others which fall a bit short.

But at least 6 episodes are very good.

What is striking is that quite frankly all the actors have barely done anything of note previous to this and generally all put in very good performances.
We are talking about the star lead actor doesn't even have a Wiki page!!
Congrats to the production team in having faith.

My only criticism is perhaps they could have held back a few times on the gore/violence. Generally they got the balance right but I couldn't help thinking a few times it's not really needed - we know what is happening and it has added nothing.
