Warren Mitchell has passed away aged 89. He played many roles but he will best be remembered for Alf Garnet in Till Death Do Us Part and the later In Sickness And Health. Alf is often frowned upon nowadays it was always clear to me that those shows targeted the real life bigots who shared Alf's views. Many of the scripts were brilliantly written and Warren played him wonderfully.

RIP Warren

Warrens role as Alf was that popular that The Monkeys hit song in the US was called Randy Scouse Git which was changed in the UK to Alternate Tile.
They also copied the series in the US to All in the Family.
You often see Warren popping up in adventure series such as The Saint or the Avenger playing a foreign character on the comedic side. Although this belied his greater action ability.

R.I.P. Warren and thanks for the laughs.

Alf Garnett was an amazing character, set himself up for a great fall again and again yet it still worked. Especially when Else burst his bubble with a few words at the end.
This has been done many times since but always a pale imitation.
