    Afternoon,

A warning to all Simpsons fans: DO NOT purchase the R2 edition of the upcoming Season 1 DVD boxed set. Why? Well, apart from being more expensive than importing the set from the USA, you will loose out on several of the extras. Extras the R2 set will NOT get, include:

    1) all of the original Tracey Ullman animated shorts, that first introduced us to the much-loved American family. R2 owners will just get the 1st one only! R1 owners will get ALL 40+ of them, in full, and uncensored as well! <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

    2) the never-aired Simpsons “Missing Episode” has also dissapeared in its entireity, as well. R2 owners will just get highlights and/or short clips instead <img src="eek.gif" border="0"> <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

However, you will get multiple language subtitles and soundtacks instead, which I’m sure will make-up for your losses… not!!!! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Roll on Region 1, ra, ra, ra! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

    Ummm....

I don't want to p**s on anyone's parade here, but are you sure about every 'Tracey Ullman' short appearing? None of the (sales) sites I have looked at mention anything other than 'Good Night Simpsons' (or just Good Night in some lists), the first one to be aired (Apr 19 '87).

I agree on the price though. Although picture quality is almost as important to me as sound quality, I'm sure as hell not paying double the R1 price for 20% more scan lines - especially as my TV's 'dot size' seems to be such that 'gaps' between NTSC scan lines are all but invisible unless seated within 4' (of a 50" screen)

While we are on the subject play247.com are advertising region 1 set for 17.99 and region 2 for 33.99.

Had my region 1 set on order for a little while now.

for the record their feature lists for the 2 sets are as follows. Looks like there might be some stuff on region 2 that's not on region 1. Guess we'll have to wait and see, but for 17.99 I am more than happy to go with the region 1 set.

    Region 1:<br />Commentaries on Each Episode By Creator Matt Groening<br />Bart the Genius: Original Script<br />Bart the General: Original Script<br />Moaning Lisa: Original Script<br />Some Enchanted: Original Script<br />Unaired Episode with Optional Commentary<br />Animatic: Bart the General w/Commentary, Albert Brooks<br />Outtakes<br />America's First Family BBC Special<br />Bart T-shirt Controversy ABC News<br />Tracy Ulman: Good Night Simpsons<br />Foreign Language Clips (7)<br />Early Sketches (Still Gallery-100)<br />12 Stills and Magazine Covers

    <br />region 2:<br />Creator Matt Groening's Individual Episode Audio Commentaries<br />Albert Brooks Outtakes<br />Animatics<br />'Making Of' Featurettes<br />Original Script Notes<br />Outtakes from an Original Episode<br />'Anatomy of an Episode with Creator Matt Groening<br />'Making Of The Simpsons: America's First Family'<br />ABC News special<br />First Ever Simpsons Short from the 'Tracey Ulman Show'<br />Foreign Language Clips<br />Early Sketch Gallery<br />Magazine Covers<br />Interactive Menu<br />Scene Access

    Confucious,

Well, I'm not 100% accurate about all 40+ of the original Simpsons shorts being on the DVD, but I have read it in at least 2 different UK DVD magazines, so....

Regardless, it still looks like R2 owners are gonna get shafted, one way or another!

I`ve been watching for developments on the Simpsons DVD with interest. I agree with PoochJD, once again the consumers in this country are getting battered.<br />What surprises me is that in certain magazines, reviewers neglect to mention that the Region 1 version is available for less than £20.

    Absolutely useless.

Just as an aside, all the films reviewed in the same magazine get crap scores. Do they go out of there way to find duff?

The alphabetically listings have also disappeared. That`s it, you`ve convinced me not to buy this magazine again.

Just to confirm that only the first (Goodnight Simpsons) Tracy Ullman 'short' will be included on the first season release (R1), with thanks to <a href="http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_4/simpsons_season_1.html" target="_blank">DVD File</a>. I wouldn't be at all suprised to see more of these (there were 47 in total) popping up on future releases though.
