I love this game but can only get it run on a PC running Win 98. It will not run on my XP Home laptop. It plays the opening "cut scene" then just stalls at the menu. I've tried running it in compatability mode, but still no result.

Any ideas? Specs as follows: 128 MB RAM ATI graphics card (shared system memory). 1GB RAM. P4 2.6 GHZ

Thanks very much. I spent most of the afternoon looking for an answer.

I've just tried the "fix" and it works

Wow, you've whetted my appetite for it again. I bought this game years and years ago, completed it a couple of times and have left it languishing in a cupboard since. I'd totally forgotten about it and how good it was.

Shame they don't make a follow up.

It was actually the follow up to an earlier Warhammer game!

Which one? I see a couple come up on ebay now and again (Chaos Gate? Final Liberation?), but have no idea if they are good or not.

Maybe we could get Creative Assembly to do Warhammer Dark Omen 2 with the Rome Total War engine? Now THAT would be good. :smashin:

Warhammer: Shadow Of The Horned Rat.That was the prequal. A DOS based game, in 256 cloours and with midi files for music. This was based around the Grudgbringer cavalry.

I've also dusted off Star Wars Supremacy (Rebellion). With hard drives being so large these days, I bought CD drive emulator and copied all the CD-ROMs onto my laptop. They run very well.

The fix listed above does work. Dark Omen is a stonkingly good strategy game (though a little hard). Using the replacement cursor files the game has stopped freezing. I set the graphics option to CPU, as the 3D option doesn't seem to like contemporary Nvidia/ATI drivers. But with the power of current PC's the rendering is spot on.

So dust off this classic and give it a second go

I loved SOTHR, played it through twice, was pretty dam hard too. Best was the wizard guy who would roast whole units with fireballs, used to love that.

Only ever played the demo of Dark Omen, it came out when I was a student and couldn't afford a) the system to play it on or b) the game itself, perhaps I should pick up a copy.

I am really looking forward to the new Warhammer 40,000 game coming from Relic, looks simply awesome! Also, a little upset they canned the Warhammer MMORPG coming up :(
