War of the Worlds DVD - which version?

Anyone got any details on the forthcoming War of the Worlds DVDs? (the Spielberg version that is) I know there is a single disc and double disc version, but there also seems to be a limited edition version being advertised on Movietyme and Amazon but niether has any details.

I am dying to see it again and want to pre-order but don't know which version to go for... either way it is probably going to be superceded in a few months anyway!

Just looked again and it seems that the 2-disc version and the limited edition version are the same thing - no details on why it is "Limited" though - probably a marketing gimmick by the looks of it!

The limited edition you refer to is the R1 2 disc, yes? As far as I can make out from details on various sites it is this 2 disc R1 set that is being advertised as 'limited', although content wise it seems no different than the R2 2 disc which is much cheaper.

When I first saw the price of the R1 Ltd Ed I thought it must include the soundtrack CD like the R1 Terminal Ltd Ed did, but it seems not and is priced ridiculously highly for what seems a standard 2 disc set.

I've pre-ordered the R2 set myself and unless there is some last minute announcement of additional content or extra third disc to the R1 set, that's what I'm sticking with.

Is there plans for the R3 version to have DD EX and DTS ES?

Has anyone got the R3 yet? I have it on order from CDWOW. R3s are usually no worse than any other region, but can be a bit of a gamble sometimes (except Warner and 20th Century Fox releases). I got the Sahara R3 for the DTS track, but the picture was terrible.

Anyway, if anyone gets the R3 let us know what its like.

Bought the R2 version today in Tesco for £12.77.

The neighbours will be upset tonight.

Recieved my R3 this morning.
A Nice Little suprise enclosed, it came with a little WOTW torch!!
Also came in a slipcase which I didn't think it would.

Me too, I didn't think it would come in a slipcase either. Liked the coverart too, better than seeing Tom's mug on the front cover! :D

Still waiting for mine (Irish post may be going on strike, so could be waiting a while!). Is the picture quality any good (comparable to the R1?)

Have you seen the price of war of the worlds in axel music.com? It looks like a regular two disc edition that they are claiming is limited and selling for £21.99. It's weird when region 2 DVDs are hugely cheaper than region 1 for an new release.

I can't see what's so special about it. Can anybody tell me?

Is the aspect ratio correct? 1.85:1 ? surely its 2.35 :1 or something like that?

No it's definitely 1.85:1 - not sure why it is limited (it does say limited edition on the package, it's nothing to do with Axel), but it does come in a nice slipcase/digipack. Haven't had time to compare versions yet - too busy by half!

Nice to hear about the R3 packaging, was hoping it wouldnt have Toms head on it :), Free torch also sounds like a nice touch, R3's seem to throw these little extras in everynow and then (got a set of Starwars postcards with SWIII)
