The cheapest but good with low input lag is the samsung F5000, 16ms input lag, in 32" and 42"(won't be a samsung panel at his size), it's £280 for a 32".
The tv with the lowest input lag full stop and is a quality lower mid range is the sony W6 series with 6ms input lag, they are around £380? 32" and £550 42".
Those are the two best options for input lag and picture quality factoring that the tv is only for gaming and not other uses. Panasonic lcds are above 20 or 30ms and offer nothing these cannot do. You can look up the owner threads here on avforums if you like. Hope this helps

Thanks for that. Is there any clear differences between the 2 televisions?

The viewing angles are better on the sony and i believe it has a slightly less reflective screen. It has superior scaling for non hd sources and obviously better lag. The sony has a better motion enhancer and can be enabled in game mode which is also compatible with RGB 4:4:4 for a crisp picture like a pc monitor. The samsung can only achieve 4:4:4 and it's best gaming picture quality when an input is labelled as PC, this in turn will disable the motion enhancer and limit some of the picture tuning options. The motion enhancer the sony uses eliminates all motion blur at the cost of a dimmer image and some may see a minor flicker, the samsung variation which you can't use when labelling the input as PC removes a little bit but not all blur and does not dim the image as much. As you are console gaming at 30fps most likely on the xbox one the motion enhancers may be of no use as 60fps games benefit most from using motion enhancers. Also be aware that the 42" version of the samsung will not use a samsung screen as they only make 40" panels themselves. I also can't vouch for the panel the 32" sony uses either only the 42" which i have.

I guess as using an xbox one the scaling is a mute point and as i say motion enhancers are probably pointless for those frame rates or not depending on your point of view so it comes down to viewing angles and input lag and price and size. If you want 32" then the samsung may suit your needs better and if you want bigger then the sony is the better option due to the unknown panel type the samsung may have. Be aware though it not a guarantee that the 32" samsung will have their panel but hopefully it would. You can look up reviews on the 42" sony on * as well as the samsung F5000 32".
    Regards

Cheers for your time here mate. I'm thinking of the Samsung 32 inch as I'm wanting one cheap as possible and it seems to be good value for money

If you want cheap by a used tv. People always sell and upgrade. You will get a better value for money with a used one over at the classifieds and some even have warranty. Win win win

Where did you find out about the 16ms lag from the Samsung?

So in your opinion this is the best cheap option for a 32inch?

Well I own the Sony KDL32W653 and without a doubt, for gaming it is truly an exceptional TV and at £389 I think it's great value for money.

I've not seen the Samsung UE32F5000 in action but if there's one website I trust other than AVF when it comes to reviews it's HDTVtest.

The Sammy gets a great review and though the lag is a little higher than the Sony, you won't notice the difference I assure you.

And given the Sammy is around £100 cheaper, if the Sony is a little out of your price range then I'm certain this will be the next best thing.

I recall buying a 32" Samsung Series 1 HD Ready TV back in 2005 when HDTV's had just hit our shores and I paid £850

Ah cool. So the sony you have is the one that is mentioned above? Iv never really known much about lag on televisions until recently. So the samsung will run quite good whilst playing cod ghosts on the Xbox one?

That's right mate. It seems most people are buying the Sony with next gen gaming in mind, me being one of them!

Samsung is a premium name when it comes to TV's and I've lost count of how many I've owned over the years. I would be VERY confident that games like Ghosts will play brilliantly on the UE32F5000.

In fact if we hadn't had the Sony's this year, we'd probably all be raving over this Sammy!

Well I'm paying my xbox one and add ons off over the next 2 months so I think it really depends how much money I will have when I get paid in November spare to see what tv I get. I can afford the sammy for sure. May try and push to get the sony. Can you link me to a retailer for the Sony please. Cheers

Tbh mate, I wouldn't look anywhere else other than John Lewis with their 5 year warranty and great customer service. Whenever I buy a new TV, John Lewis is the first play I look to buy from.

I think the main differences between the two are that the Sony has Smart TV and wifi built in whereas the Samsung has neither so if those things appeal to you then I'd save the extra and go with the Sony.

If they don't, I really don't envisage there being much difference in terms of picture quality and as already said, you won't notice the difference in lag.

It's going to come down to what I can afford I think haha. Did you get yours delivered online? Or pick up in store?

I ordered online, paying the extra for next day delivery as I couldn't wait(!), though you can pick up in store too. The box isn't big or weighty so should go into the back of any car with no trouble.

What I would say to you is if you were to struggle to afford the £389 but can afford £289-299 and things like Smart TV aren't necessary, go with the Sammy mate. The HDTVtest review suggests it will make a great gaming monitor.

Well fingers crossed mate  The only other thing I can suggest given the Xbox One isn't out until 22/11 is hold off buying the Sony now and with any luck it might reduce in price a little nearer the time.

He said he's not gonna risk his discount :( haha which is fair enough. It's only 100 extra but to be honest that 100 could buy 2 more games :p

Yes but it could also stop you having to buy a new TV in 12 months and 1 week ;) You know John Lewis will match other bricks and mortar stores and you'll get the warranty and customer service

That's one way of looking at it. I'm sure JL have the Sammy in stock too so if you do end up buying that, I'd still buy it from them.

You'll have your 7 day Distance Selling Regulation rights if you purchase it online (you can purchase online but pick up in store if you prefer) so if it's not for you you can just send it straight back.

Don't quote me on the differences(!) but those are two that spring to mind.

I'm sure they'll be other differences but I'm sure they're minimal. Worth noting that HDTVtest also reviewed the 42" version of the Sony so might be an idea to check both reviews out
