Need to raise a euro payment to someone in Italy for about €40 (will know exact amount in next day or so).

Any Italian members of the forum (or forumites with Italian relatives) willing to accept either Paypal, Cheque or bank transfer (with a few quids on top for beer funds of course) to action a payment for me ?

    :lease:

Can't you persuade the payee to open a Paypal account?

You'd think so (even offered to cover the fees/etc) but no unfortunately.

Maybe that should be enough to start alarm bells ringing?

You should be able to make a bank transfer as normal if he will supply the necessary details. As well as the usual account details you'll need his IBAN (International Bank Account Number) & BIC (Bank Identifier Code).

IBAN and SWIFTBIC are the two identifiers that you need to do Euro transfers. I don't know about others but my bank only charges 1 Euro for these transfers.

No alarm bells or anything untowards, just that Citibank quoted me £20 to do a euro transfer.

Colin - would you be interested in accepting quids from me and doing a euro wire via your bank ? ( which bank is that btw )

I did an international transfer through Lloyds the other day, it would have been £20 :( , but there is an economy option for low amounts of money (yours is lower than mine was) and a 5-6 day transfer which came in at a tenner.

Thanks reg ... might actually have located a suitable go-between for the postepay (which is instantaneous apparently) but a coworker banks with Lloyds so will have a chat with him in the morning

    Simple alternative......

    1. Go to bank or post office and get 40 Euros in cash.

    2. Put it in an envelope, and send it "International - Signed For".

It'll cost you less than a fiver.

That's my method of "last resort" ... severe dislike of sending cash in the post
