Just had this email from wanadoo.....

Wanadoo Broadband now has a top speed of up to 8 Meg and we're rushing this faster speed out to all our broadband customers in the next few months.

We're committed to giving you the fastest broadband speed your phone line can support and we'll be in touch with you over the next few months to let you know what's happening and when.

In the meantime just hold tight, we'll contact you again soon!

    Thanks

    Philip Mehl
    Managing Director, Sales and Communications

    Darn it!!!!
My county isn't listed so I probably won't be able to get 8meg for quite some time :(

I'd rather amputate my own leg than buy anything from DSG Retail or its associate companies.

I had to threaten Freeserve (which became Wanadoo) with court action to get back the £160 which they took from my credit card after the account was supposedly "cancelled". Never again :thumbsdow

I've got the 2 meg connection with them and I don't thinkit's 2 x faster than the 1 meg! Its very quick and very lovely but I can't imagine 8 meg being 4 times faster than the 2 meg. Where on earth could I download from or connect to that would let me use the full 2 meg let alone 8 meg!?!?!?!

wanadoo are fine until something goes wrong. If you are not using their own router they just wont help you. I have a netgear that worked fine with wanadoo for overa year but wanadoo suddenly stopped giving an ADSL ip address. The router could still ping other providers and subsequently worked fine when I had to switch to BT internet but wanadoo just didn't want to know.

Only use Wanadoo for connectivity - bought my shadowritten domain hosting/email via 1&1. Upgraded to 2MB broadband, and genuinely seems faster than 1MB to me. Which surprises me, cos I live in a tiny village, and naturally assumed our neglected local loop wouldn't be able to cope with 2MB down ADSL. Be interested to know what the top speed is that I can get from Wanadoo - which will be branded Orange by next year, I'm certain, seeing as Orange is its parent (AFAIK) - when they upgrade the line again ...

Are there any download limitations? I'm quite happy with BlueYonder at the moment, but soon we'll move into a non-cable area.

I get quite a few letters from Wanadoo complaining that I have exceeded my download limit but they don't seem to do anything about it (the last letter said I had exceeded it by 18gig !!!!)

    Yes there are.....

Standard User - £14.99 for the first six months (then £17.99 a month)
    2GB data usage per month

    Active User - £22.99
    6GB data usage per month

    Heavy User - £27.99
    30GB data usage per month

But, as Common has said, people have been getting away with exceeding the limit, myself included.

You have put my mind at ease as for the last two month I've gone way over my 6Gb limit and have just been waiting for an email to warn me.

I moved over a month ago, Wanadoo would not let me put my account on-hold as we did not have a BT line, only once the BT line was installed 2 weeks later, was I allowed to contact them to move my account. Called them on the day the BT line was installed, after 10 days I thought that I would contact them to see why my broadband was still not connected only to be told that the person had not placed the order and that I was going to have to wait another 10-20 days!! :nono: :thumbsdow

The only reason why I stay with Wanadoo is to keep my email address. If only email addresses were like Mobile numbers and that we could transfer them between ISPs, maybe this would force them to increase service. :lesson: :lease:

I cancelled my wanadoo a/c after they 'messed' me about but the email is still live. Plus you can set up an automated reply including your new address.

I thought you could 'port' email addresses? Or is that just whole domains? I moved my shadowritten domain from Amen to 1&1 two years ago with no trouble. Can't remember if that included the email, though

And on the subject of exceeding download limits, I'm sure I have many times without a single warning about it!
