I'm laying some Van Damme Classic Pro Loudspeaker Cable before the walls are plastered over. The cables are quite thick (8.5mm) and I'm looking for some cable outlets / wall grommets to make the job look tidy :)

Does anyone know of anything suitable for plasterboard walls? I don't need wallplates (the ones with phono sockets or terminals etc) as I want the speaker cable to come directly out of the wall into the back of the speakers. I managed to find some wall grommets for satellite installations but they were only 8mm diameter holes

    Cheers

    H4r7y,

Happy New Year. If they can take cables up to 10mm in diameter they sound ideal. What's the drill hole diameter - about 12mm I guess? Do they tap into the wall like wall plugs? I'd need say 10 black and 10 white. PM me for payment details?

hia sorry its been a while.
i can send you 10 of each if you wish, ive also got some that are a little wider that are meant to hole 2 cables, would these be any more use to you? theyre about 7-9mm high and about 10-12mm wide.
also the single gromets are actually 7-8mm wide as they are 10mm all in with the outer too.
and yes they are similar to wall plugs, using a pair of slightly open pliers, they can be tapped into the wall with no worries of breaking them.
let me know if these still tickle your fancy or if and ill get them out to you.
    :)

I've just bought some coaxial wall plates for the same purpose from B&Q. If you remove the connector plate from the back of the fitting then you have a very neat solution.

They cost about £1.30 I think.

H4R7Y, thanks for offering but I don't think they have a large enough diameter hole for the kind of speaker cable I'm using. The cable is nearly 9mm thick so 10mm would be the minimum I think for a little give. But please keep me in mind if you come across something suitable.

PaulW77, thanks for the suggestion. I know the ones you mean. B&Q also do a power mains cable outlet type socket - thing is I don't want to cut out single gang size holes in the walls. I'm using a couple of layers of Gyproc soundbloc plasterboard and want to keep the size of cutouts to a minimum for sound proofing reasons.

The closes thing I have found are some cable exit grommets from
Canfords. They are still a little on the large size though.

    Cheers
