Waco, the first trailer for the six-part Paramount series introduces us to a star-studded cast of Taylor Kitsch, Michael Shannon, Melissa Benoist and more.

Kitsch as cult leader David Koresh

The six-part miniseries, which follows the 1993 Texas standoff between agents of the FBI and ATF against Koresh’s Branch Davidians.

The January 2018 series also features among its cast John Leguizamo, Andrea Riseborough, Rory Culkin, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim and Julia Garner.

    Ooh, nice. Looks good.

Kitsch is almost unrecogniseable in that clip

Decent retelling of the buildup and assault on the Waco compound by ATF and the FBI. Pretty straightforward in that sense but it works in its favour imo. Lots of Boardwalk Empire alumni here too with Michael Shannon (Van Alden), Paul Sparks (Mickey the Hyena), Shea Whigham (Eli Thompson) and Glenn Fleshler (George Remus) also starring in it alongside Taylor Kitsch, Julia Garner (seen recently in Ozark), Rory Culkin and Andrea Riseborough. So a pretty decent cast.

Worth a watch if the Waco story interests you. Scary men on both sides of the conflict between the Branch Davidians and the Federal authorities.

I'd been saving them up until it finished this week so we could just blitz it in one go. I liked it. I have vague memories of the actual events and watching it unfold on the news over a number of weeks, and it was nice to see some of the moments I remembered recreated in the series. They kept reminding me it was based on fact when the events you're watching often leave you wondering how something like this could happen in the first place. But it's America, I guess, and overzealous law enforcement and religious nutters come with the territory.
Any more than 6 eps would have stretched it too thin, I think. The cast do well and you get a pretty sympathetic look at certain aspects of both sides of the story. Michael Shannon certainly made me feel his frustrations in trying to negotiate the huge mess to it's conclusion.

It was decent enough to binge through in 5 hours. I'm not so sure I'd have remained as interested in it watching weekly, but that's just because the event itself dictates the pace is never going to be driving forward at breakneck speed leaving you nailed to your seat, and it's just my personal taste at the end of the day. It's well acted, it probably helps if you can remember it from the news just because that's an easy way into it, but some of the characters are compelling enough on their own to get you through the first couple of episodes of setting things up. Once you've got that far it's worth sticking around to see what abuse of power looks like on both sides of the fence

I think there was a TV movie made not long after the siege that I seem to remember watching.
