WAAS/EGNOS Nuvi 300

I have this in the setting on my Nuvi 300 and its set to off...

Wha is it and does it help Navigation if i set it to on?

I have just bought the Garmin 660 and the manual states that turning this function on MAY affect battery life.

Can anyone comment as to whether this is true or likely ?
