    1) An avatar with profanity- strike one
    2) UV codes are no longer allowed to be given away on this forum- strike two
    3) Posting your email address on a public forum- strike three

Three strikes in a 1st post has got to be a record!
I think you must count as all 3 types of 'censored' as described in your avatar :laugh:

I just seen these codes can't be given away -when did that happen?

I hate them anyway but I like to see them go somewhere. So it's the bin from now on?

What's the thinking behind the ban?

Copyright. They cannot be distributed without the disk they were packaged with.

But surely that is the same as people selling single discs seperated from a set
Ie People selling a 3D disc of a movie that came with a 2D & DVD release
I am sure that is a breach of copyright too.

Heavy handed with no foundation in law as far as I can see.

It's a bit of paper, I own it. I bought it.

You own the bit of paper but you don't 'own' the digital copy rights.
Your digital copy rights are tied to the physical discs. You are licenced a digital copy of your discs to use on PC/portable devices etc.

Eg If I buy a PC with an OEM copy of Windows. I can't just install Linux & then sell/give away that OEM copy of Windows to anyone.

Remember digital rights we have are different from the rights we have when we physically own something.

    Licensed not licenced.

I have made no agreement, bargain nor taken up any licence ie it's mine to do with as I like (ie download as and when within the period I can). The limitations are it'll stop working when it stops working. The rest is just pie in the sky mumbo jumbo.

Amazed the sharing of film download codes have been banned on a film website.

    UltraViolet™ Service Terms Of Use

    Intellectual Property Matters:
You cannot give away something that is not yours to give.

Btw I'm not saying I agree with the mods, as I don't see the harm in giving them away (other than all the annoying one post chancers that keep turning up) as otherwise they go to waste.
But I guess it's not a random decision on their part either, & the Blu-ray, DVD, streaming thread has always been pretty strict about piracy, copyright infringement etc.

Ah, so that would be 'terms of use' not law or copyright and that would also apply to people in the USA.

Of course I suppose I could be extraordinarily rendered to the USA and the 'terms of use' may apply but unlikely any law would.

I see no infringement of any copyright (it is a digital code) and it's ridiculous to claim there is. Where did all this nonsense come from?

The t&cs say you can't sell it but nothing about giving it away for free - seems like heavy handed and poorly informed jobs worth nonsense.

I'm sure the same terms of use/copyrights are in force for using Ultraviolet in the UK & you'd get prosecuted in the UK (although I'd doubt it'd ever happen to anyone ).

I think it'll probably be a copyright issue as the copyright owner could claim you're breaching their copyright for using it for non-personal purposes? Eg I guess maybe similar to if you play music at work using headphones for personal use, you're not breaching copyright, but if you play music at work over speakers (even in an back room office with 2 people-I already own the CD, so why can't I listen to it in my office?) then you're breaching copyright & have to pay a licensing fee to PPL or PRS.
PPL - PPL licenses recorded music played in public
    http://www.prsformusic.com/Pages/default.aspx

    I don't know.

Hopefully our outdated digital rights laws get updated at some time in the future to make things clearer, but it's probably not going to happen for a long time.

    LOL :D

Anyway, I spoke with the FACT Content Theft | FACT today and they have assured me UV codes can be used by anyone and passed to any third party however in England, Wales & NI it is now illegal to be illegal -so it is illegal anyway. Here in Scotland I've passed it to the apporpriate authorities:

Everyone in this thread is also illegal.

All your base are belong to us.

I have some codes, but unfortunately they can only be deposited into my bank account. Send me your bank details, favourite 4 digit number, your mother's maiden name and the name of the first school you attended and I will send through the codes for The Room, The Last Airbender and Catwoman.

I have a new code for Filth.

As much use to me as a string of pearls to an ape but it's heading for the bin which is a crying shame.
