We look forward to meeting you at our Vu+ booth, Hall 10.1 T30.

The Vu+ TEAM

The new VU+ Solo SE will be publicly revealed at the Anga Com this year. This is the new base 'entry' model in the VU+ range and is powered by a 1.3Ghz Broadcom processor.

The Solo SE is essentially an entry machine based on a paired down Solo2. The Solo SE will have a further degree of flexibility over the Solo 2 as it incorporates an advanced pluggable tuner meaning DVB-S2, DVB-C/T, DVB-C/T/T2 are achieveable.

It's a pretty neat box measuring 210mm. In some ways the Solo SE overlaps the Solo2 with additional flexibility through the pluggable tuner. The Solo SE is though the entry level machine of the range.

The range of VU+ products has been rationalised and will now be on 3 levels - the entry level Solo SE, for the mid-range the Solo 2 and for the top end the Duo2.

The Solo, Duo, Ultimo & Uno are no longer in production. There will be no more planned future production of these machines. The support however is not going anywhere and will obviously continue for these older machines.

Regards

ES

Launch date for Solo SE understood to be Q3 - perhaps even June/July (dependent on factors)

Nice, looks like there is room for a HDD

Just like the original Solo there is no internal HDD and no VFD on this model. Bizarrely it lacks a Gigabit ethernet connection and has a standard 10/100Mbit interface. What it does have is a pluggable tuner which gives it some flexible/crossover and the 1.3GHz processor.

It is basically the new entry level VU+ machine designed to cater at the budget conscious end of the market and to try make VU+ receivers more accessible to those otherwise unable to afford the higher models.

The launch date is meant to be Q3 latest and could even be out June/July if everything gets sorted.

The lack of a Gigabit ethernet interface is either a bit of a backward step or an oversight? It may not have an option for an internal HDD but there seems little need to cripple a networked linux box such as this transfer speed wise.

The rumours are approx £170/€199 but at those levels the market it enters is extremely competitive already.

Towards the end of 2014 the sat scene may also see some more changes. XBMC4STB continues to make progress and the rumours surrounding Dreambox are that they are planning an Ultra HD receiver.

Doh was looking at the Cam slot

Great spec. Almost perfect for the money apart from no HDD capability. Surely they could have squeezed a 2.5" drive in there.
