    Hi

I'm planning to purchase either a Sony VA555ES or Pioneer VSX2011S. Does anyone have experience of comparing the two products?

Both appear to be available for around £670 with a bit of hard searching.

I have a KEF KHT2005 setup and will be attaching a Sony DVD player, Sky+ box and XBox.

    Cheers

    Paul

Try a Pioneer VSX1011s, it's cheaper than the 2011s, it just doesn't have the 'Air Studios' tuning (there is also little difference in the sound quality)and its better built than the Sony.

I would have to say that the Sony is beautifully built. A step up from the Pioneers. Its is getting a bit long in the tooth now though, only 6 channels of amplification if that matters to you.

I've had the Sony VA555ES since feb. '02 and it's an excellent piece of kit if you're ok with 6.1-and it's certainly of better build quality than the Pioneer (good as the Pioneer is)

I agree, the Sony's build quality is hugely better than the Pioneer's, and to my ears it's considerably better in Stereo too.

Not too worried about the 7th Channel, however I like the idea of the automated set up facility, it doesn't appear as if the Sony has anything similar. I believe I can set ths up manually with an SPL meter. I assume the Sony has a 'learning' remote too

I personally think the build quality on the 2011 is pretty impressive. Plus the Pio remote also has the learning function and huge code library

Not to mention it being very good in stereo! :D

I the same decision to make last Christmas, I also considered the Denon 3803.

After a lot of reading I finally went for the Pioneer. I'm not sure what people are basing their opinions on build quality on. The 2011 is very well built and having seen the 555ES, I'd say the Pioneer puts it in the shade. It's not that the Sony was bad, far from it in fact, just that the 2011 is build like a tank and looks gorgeous.
