hi guys, bit of a noob on the home AV front and struggling to get answers I need online.

in a panic as the VSX 1016v I have running my HDMi / 5:1 currently I'm unsure if it will work with 4k

I'm about to get a 4k screen and sources will be Sky Q and Xbox One X HDMI & feed the Bose Cube speakers, sub, center speaker. I speced a decent screen for gaming etc and knew I needed decent cables but just paniced the receiver will be the stumbling block!!

recommendations on the budget end to replace with 4k? If I need to? I found the Pioneer VSX 531 on Amazon seems ok, again tho if there is a 2 source version is happily pay less.

    noob questions I know, sorry

No, The VSX1016 predates the HDMI version needed to facilitate HDCP 2.2 compliance as well as the ability to passthrough 4K 40/60Hz video.

The Pioneer VSX531 on the other hand is fully HDCP 2.2 compliant and can passthrough UHD encoded 4K video sources with a frame rate of up to 60Hz.

thanks @dante01 really appreciated. I thought as much from its age but wasn't sure.

so the VSX531 is about my top end of my budget. Is that spec OK for Sky Q, and Xbox One X 4K?

The VSX531 is fully compliant with UHD 4K/60p/4:4:4 pass-through with HDCP 2.2 compliance. THe downside is that it only includes support for HDR10 and will not passthrough Dolby Vision or HLG HDR.

my next question is I've read they dont have auto calibaration. As a bit of a noob is that going to be a big issue.

my old amp did have that. A little mic I plugged in and it did its magic.

read a review on the Yamaha RX-V379 that this does have auto calibration but they are quite a bit more pricey

will the 531 have steps to calibrate manually a relative newbie can follow?

if I'm honnest needing an upgrade came as a surprise so I'm looking for as cheap as possible that will do the job. But also do wanna avoid stress. I guess £200ish but happy to listen to all advice for my setup from people that know!

I'm not after pin perfect cinema experience, but just want it right / working you know.

    inputs are - Sky Q, Xbox K
speakers - 4 x Bose jewell cubes corner mounted, eltax sub and just ordered a Dali Zensor Pico Vokal Centre Speaker.
    Sony Bravia 55"

its all a bit piece meal as just been working with what I had for the budget etc I know not ideal.

    really appreciated.
