both projectors seem identical, the vw12 has a higher contrast.

    the question is......

is the vw12 worth the 1000 pounds more than the hs10????

the cheapest prices in the uk(so far)

    vw12ht 2975(inc vat)
    hs10 1975(inc vat)

after studying all projectors under 5000 pounds its these two that i want.

    the question is which one?

    any help/info please post.

    thanks!!!!

Can't really see the 12HT being £1000 better than the HS10 TBH. Similiar specs with the HS10 slightly ahead if anything (DVI).

Noise might be an issue, although several have said the 12HT ain't that quiet either.

Definitely in a light controlled room with HCPC as source & a well calibrated HS10 with CC40R fitted, can't see how the 12HT could be better in the "black" department.

I'm biased of course (has to be said lest I'm accused), but my vote's for a HS10 & the saved £1k will get a nice 8' Owl electric screen (recommend these too).

every review i have read puts the VW12HT in a diferent class to the HS10 , just better quality all round.Whether its worth 1000 more is up to you . Also from what i have read the VW12Ht doesnt have a fan that sounds like a jet engine and doesnt have the Bulb problems either.

I think the only way with any PJ is to go check em out

No, but it did sound like a fan heater when I demo'd it. It was a horrible droning sound. It was mounted ona glass shelf so whether there was vibration I don't know but it was certainly louder/more distracting than the TW100 I sent back to Epson.

Absolutely right, you have to demo to find out for yourself.

The contrast ratio on the VW12HT is much higher than on the HS10. You will therefore get better blacks (this could be very important, depending on how picky you are) and possibly even better shadow details. And as stated above, the HS10 has DVI with HDCP if that is important.

Just to make your decision slightly harder, I've seen the 12HT for £2899(+39 delivery) (robert Whyte), not sure what they are like though...?

I could have had it for £2750 but with the fannoise I decided not to.

    thanks for the info guys

yep your right i still cant decide between the two.

but i think for my needs(standalone dvd player, quietness and dvds with a space theme) the vw12 is the one but 1000 pounds more than the hs10 seems a bit too much.

from were ive been studying the price drops, the vw12 is falling in price more and more. maybe i should wait until its big brother comes out to see the price of the vw12 then.

anyone who owns the vw12/hs10 could they recommend the screen make, type and gain they are using.

    thanks again

Don't be fooled by thinking the VW12 is quiet. Have you listened to one? I've heard plenty of quieter pjs (AE300, TW100, LPX500, HT1000 and I guess there are many more).

DO listen to one before you buy. Otherwise I think you may be disappointed.

I've vot a VW11 (practically the same as the VW12) and the fans aren't as quiet as some (still fairly quiet though).
The good thing is that what noise it does make is quite low pitched, so its not nearly as annoying or noticeable as others.

For the record, the Yamaha DPX1 is the quietest I've ever heard, and you can get it for about £3K at Sound & Vision.

Anyway, I'm very happy with my projector and I use a stewart grayhawk screen (0.9 gain) and a CC40R filter.
Its a really great combination, but the screen is very expensive.
Previously I used a cheap white Draper screen (1.4 gain) and the picture (without filter) was nothing to right home about.

VW12 + CC40R filter + stewart greyhawk screen would still be high on my shopping list if I were starting again.
