I really like the sound of Next Level. Aside from the gaming connotations, I think it also implies a Next Level of shopping/service rather than the somewhat shabby treatment that seems to be the norm these days.

    Good luck with the venture!

I voted for Elite Games as though i love the sound of Next Level i'm just not sure whether it's just a little too ambiguous for people to know what you're selling.

Stupidly i saw the other thread first and put a few ideas in there.Personally i wouldnt go for anything with "elite" in the title because of the 360 elite.

I voted for "Gamepad"...got a nice ring to it i think.

Don't know wether this has been mentioned before but there was a computer games shop called next level a little while ago in Newcastle. Don't know wether there is any more or if it was a one off but might be something to watch out for, stealing someone elses name.

    Voted for GamePad.

Im going to vote for gamepad too, though a little tip maybe adding the word The in front so it becomes The gamepad may make it appear more of a community or meeting place for gamers? just a thought.

GamePad for me. The shop should have the word 'game' in just to attract the passing market who might not understand the 'next level' connotations.

    I like NextLevel.

Are you going to have a little gaming lounge in the shop? I always thought it would be a good idea to have a small seated area with a couple of the consoles running so people can chill out and play a couple of games. You'd have to make it safe though as you don't want people stealing controllers etc. Could be a good way to get people into the shop. Maybe connect them to the web so people can play Halo or COD or something online? Anyway, I'm rambling.

    NextLevel for me.

EDIT: Where is the shop going to be?

Vote for GamePad here, also like NextLevel but isn't that a UK recruitment agency(the name certainly rings a bell)? If so the confusion over name could possibly lose a few potential customers.

GamePad sounds more clear as to the type of shop you have IMO.

I went for NextLevel too as while there may be a question mark as to what the shop is from the mass consumer - most gamers should get it straight away.

But surely that's the thing, with the rise & rise of the causal gamer("hello Wii") surely you need a name that's going to be obvious to the mass consumer aswell as the regular gamers?

I suppose in the simple solution if wanting to use NextLevel would be to add games on the end to make NextLevel Games.

If you fire up Mario Strikers Charged on Wii, at the start where it says all the companies, one of them is "Next Level Games", and the name is said by Mario's voice. That is where you have probably heard it.

If the brand is successful though then people will understand exactly what the name would imply. Using the name 'Wii' as an example, how many casual gamers really know why Nintendo decided to use the name?

I like Next Level the best out of those 4. As posted in the previous thread though, people can think too much about what a name is trying to say. The name we picked for our mortgage company is too wordy IMO, although when we were caught up in name choosing mode it seemed to say what we wanted it too. I'd much rather have something abstract as at the end of the day, people passing your shop should instantly be able to see what you sell from the window (covers passing trade) and a catchy name (say a very small word or just one letter) is easier to remember for word of mouth speak.

It's natural to feel tha a name has to be a really clever play on words, but in reality it's much more important to just have something really short and catchy.

That said, if the above are what you've chosen then Next Level is the best there IMO and it's certainly not a bad name and is pretty catchy. :)

Think about it, what does the likes of Next or Gap have to do with clothes? They are really just catchy abstract words (may have come from an abreviation but i'm not sure what) as opposed to something like "New Threads" etc.

Next Level for me too. Whilst i quite like GamePad there's already Game and Game Station so I think it's too similar (although prehaps thats a good thing).

When I hear Elite I think of the seminal space trading computer game rather than the 360 :D :rotfl:

Don't forget it should be "Next Level Games" :lesson:

I'd say that Next Level is fine by itself really and there's not really a need for the Games bit. Just my opinion though, keep the name short and punchy.

I'd agree with that. It should be obvious by the shop-front/window display what's on sale. The telephone could always be answered, 'Next Level Games/Gaming' or whatever:)

    You're both wrong :D

Joking aside I see what you mean,it may be a better idea to just keep it short and sweet.

CAS gave a god example with regards to next and gap, being that you don't necessarily need to use a name that has anything to do with the product you are selling.

I guess it's just because i've been there, made the mistakes, bought the t-shirt etc. If you can find just one word (a Thesaurus is a big help) that perhaps loosly relates to gaming and is catchy then that could work.

How about "B.F.G", yep I know it relates to the big friendly giant :D and isn't actually a word, but we all know of it's Doom connotations as well. :) I guess that those of us who are mature gamers will relate to it on one level, it causes people to ask questions on another level (and if people are talking about your business then that is a good thing) and it's catchy as well.
