I'm trying to find a DVD player to partner my Faroudja NRS scaler and Barco BG808 projector, would anybody be interested in coming round and comparing their DVD player in this combination?

I'm thinking it would be interesting to compare the likes of the Denon 3800, Arcam DV88+ and DV27 in both their interlaced output through the NRS and their native progressive mode compared to the NRS and also compare them to my HTPC. The location is in Telford in the Midlands.

All I can offer in return is tea and biscuits I'm afraid. :(

Never mind, we would probably have ended up swapping photos of Cyprus!

Looks like there isn't much interest in having a get together (shootout?) to compare DVD players, pity really, it would have given us a definitive answer on which player really does have the best picture, and whether the progressive output on the latest players can match an external deinterlacer.:(

Even if I've managed to get sorted by then I would still welcome the comparison out of curiosity.

The latest best DVD I've tried is a Meridian 596, which for some reason or another didn't work very well with the Faroudja, rather unfortunate as I really liked the Meridian and would have liked to have kept it.

    Gary G,

Perhaps yopu want to add Pioneer DV-757Ai in the comparisons.
I use it with a plasma screen but my neighbour has put it together with a scaler and an Epson EOMP-TW100 projector.
He actually replaced from a Denon 3800 and his comment was that "the Denon was very good but the Pioneer just excellent".
Sorry, I am not close to you and busy for the next 2-3 weekends otherwise I will definitely try.

I live in The Netherlands, but am very curious as to the outcome of this. I am using a Barco Cine 8 myself and want to combine this with a H3D based HTPC. I have seen analogue component video outputs beat SDI on the H3D and would like to know which DVD-player has the absolute best interlaced component output.

I am leaning towards the DVD32 myself, as it doesn't have the chroma bug, which to me is very noticeable on my Sony DVP-S7700 + Cinematrix PSM-1.

    Cheers!

One of the advantages of the Faroudja is that it masks the chroma bug making it less of an issue.:D
