Having watched endless Youtube vids on how to unlock an iphone 5 for free, it appears there is no such thing.
If it's from a third party then the ONLY way is to get a vodafone sim, top it up, wait 30 days and then apply for an unlock code. Even online unlock services need this.
Seems a little pointless paying someone to unlock the phone.
Can any one confirm this is truly the only way ?

Yeah just ask vodafone for it to be unlocked. My S7 edge was unlocked free and almost immediately, had to send a text to a number... it was all automated if I remember correctly.

No need to top up, they unlock it for free after 30 days.

    Sorry for late reply.
Vodafone told me. You have to either buy a sim with credit or get a free sim and top it up. Make a call during the 30 days then after the 30 days they will unlock it. Either way, unlocking is not free.
I have decided to sell the phone locked as getting it unlocked is way too much grief, time and money.
Thank you to all for your time and advice

Hi has anyone ever tried / had experience with this. I'm thinking about purchasing a phone from a friend who received as an unwanted gift, its locked to Vodaphone but I am on 3 (contract sim only deal). If I put in a voda SIM card and top up with £5 make a call will voda unlock straight away for free or will I have to wait?

    Thanks
